Happy New Year to all! Here we are halfway through the academic year and entering 2018. I am hopeful that this academic year has been filled with growth, learning and peaceful transitions. Education is known for its changeability; always adapting to new societal influences, attempting to utilize new concepts, innovative research developments, and looking for ways to enhance learning - whether through technology or as an attempt to reach diverse learning styles. As an educational consultant, with both of my grown children in education, I enjoy gleaning new educational concepts from an array of learning levels and educational venues. Still, having educated my own children, I understand the desire for consistency and a harmonious learning environment, while encouraging learners to seek out passionate pursuits. Finding the balance between change for the good and consistency can be a struggle! In my experience the best plan is to utilize the strengths of each, for the good of all. I think Vision Charter Academy, with the ILP model exemplifies both worlds: change and consistency.
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. ~Benjamin Franklin
I wanted to write a note as we begin the second half of the academic year, and the beginning of our cultural new year, to invite you to actively participate in VCA. We love to hear from and see our parents, guardians, and students alike. The voice of VCA throughout the community is imperative and growing stronger each year. It is my fervent hope that you can see how hard we strive to create a loving, learning, listening environment. I think I can speak for the entire Board when I say: we are excited to be serving on the Board of Stewards for Vision Charter Academy and we are working hard to keep your trust and make a difference in Delta County.
Have a Happy, Safe, Prosperous, New Year!

A Word From Willyn
Hi Families, Staff, and Learners!
New year, new efforts. In order to reach more families, I'm going to do Wednesday with Willyn, Town Hall Meetings, a North Fork Ed Chat, and meet with co-ops and individuals who want to talk about Vision Charter Academy. I really, really want to LISTEN!
- Jan 4th, 11:45, Olathe Co-Op at Victory Baptist Church
- Jan 10th, 9:00, Wed with Willyn, Doghouse Espresso or Facebook LIVE
- Jan 17th, 1:30, North Fork Community Ed Chat at Paonia Public Library
- Jan TBD Montrose Co-Op
- Town Hall Meetings coming in Feb. Check out next month's newsletter!
Also, I want to share the Vision Charter Academy Guidebook for Success! It is intended to be a go-to guide for getting the answers you need. It is a virtual document with links from the Table of Contents to the topic you want to read about. Many topics have links to additional resources, information, forms, policies, or documents. I would love your feedback. I'm sure there is something we missed. When trying to compile a one-stop shop, so to speak, for an organization as diverse as VCA, missing something is inevitable. Let me know what you think!
Finally, I have concluded that the best chance we have at addressing state compliance requirements(meetings, documentation) is to become a Performance School, which means we get our state testing participation up to 95% and our test scores (academic achievement and growth on PARCC, PSAT and SAT) UP! We can benefit learners by learning how to test, seeing their own growth, and help our daily compliance needs all at the same time! Start your test prep HERE! Remember practicing for state tests benefits learners by helping them show growth! Watch upcoming newsletters for more on test prep, the return of the awesome Carnivals on each campus, t-shirt incentives, and more!
Happy New Year, Happy New Semester, and thanks for being part of VCA!
Love,
Willyn

National Honor Society
Inducts Three New Members!
|
|
Congratulations to Sam Hartman, Camille Hartman, and Zion Connelly for showing excellence in Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. They were inducted into NHS on Dec. 11th. NHS President Andrew Davis did a wonderful job as master of ceremonies. A key note address by Willyn Webb stated that becoming a member of NHS, especially in a K-12 school such as Vision, is not only an honor, but an opportunity. She encouraged them to take advantage of their status as NHS members and be purposeful in exhibiting the four traits to set an example for those who will follow in their footsteps.
Thank you Darci Hellman who arranged the ceremony and the committee who reviewed the applications. All learners should set their sights on being part of this national and long standing honor group. It is never to early to start. For more information contact club sponsor Darci Hellman at dhellman@visioncharteracademy.org
