      A Word From Willyn
This quote from Benjamin Franklin speaks to the Vision Charter Academy initiative of learner designed projects.  From parent guided demonstrations of learning at home, to classes' Friday folders, to our Spring Showcases--VCA learners are leading the way in how they demonstrate their learning.  VCA is set up to acknowledge various learning styles, multiple intelligences, and a variety of ways for our kids to show what they know and experience learning.  This is how a love of learning is supported and life long learners developed.  As facilitators we must always strive to involve learners every step of the way. It is a joy to be part of a school that truly supports individualized learning and projects! For a quick guide to getting started with projects click HERE.

Charter Renewal Spotlight

On January 19th the Delta County School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution granting Vision Charter Academy a four year renewal. The next steps involve both VCA and DCSD in reviewing, updating, negotiating, and finalizing the contract. We would like to have this complete and set for approval by the April meeting.

YOU are invited...
Everyone from the community, the parent guided families and learners, the class based families and learners, and anyone who loves learning!

 Food for thought -
VCA would like to give a special thank you to State Farm ($25,000 for food and $10,000 for the shed) and Alpine Bank ($4,000). The procurement of a storage facility to house all of the Food for Thought food and supplies makes service available to VCA learners.
THANK YOU for making this program a possibility!

Chamber of Commerce Memberships

VCA is joining the Chambers of Commerce in Delta, Cedaredge, and Paonia.  New member ceremonies will be held on all three campuses. As we strive to engage our communities, we feel becoming part of the chambers is a great step. Please plan on joining in the events and supporting our involvement. Spreading the word about VCA as an educational option for families in Delta and Montrose counties is in the best interest of families wanting involvement in their children’s education and in the future opportunities for VCA.  Thank you for speaking highly of our model and supporting our staff.
Did You Know...?
... At this time 589 elective courses are being taken by VCA learners who are benefiting from the over 50 business partnerships, who meet stringent requirements per Department of Labor, PERA, and IRS regulations.
Learners in the Limelight!
Sarah Green is a 5th grade parent guided learner. She has been a student of VCA since she began kindergarten. In addition to excelling in her studies, Sarah is an avid reader and active in gymnastics, karate, skiing and climbing club. Last year, she was the Delta county school district 4th grade spelling bee champion and is looking forward to this year's spelling bee in the spring. She also made it to state in the Silver Level of Gymnastics.  Sarah is kind and a good friend.  She is always looking for ways to help others.
Dakota Harding is a parent guided Sophomore enrolled in the North Fork campus. Dakota lives 10 miles outside of town and does a lot of ranch work. Having the freedom and open space has allowed him many unique experiences. Dakota love to create - including making a homemade plasma cutter from scratch! This year he is taking a robotics course and in addition to making a mobile Lego robot, is learning basic programming and technology.
Dakota hopes to go to college for Engineering and has a good chance to get there with his interests and natural talents in the field.
