WINGS MN Fall Educational Event
How to Do Supported Decision Making:
Personal and Professional Perspectives

November 17, 2021
1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

Supported decision making is recognized as a best practice and person-centered approach to decision making...but how do we do it? This question is at the heart of many who are considering how we may need assistance in our decision making (now or in the future) or how we can best be a supporter. We will explore this and other related questions in a panel discussion focused on the "how" of supported decision making such as: How might one go about identifying supporters? What do supported decision making agreements look like? How are groups of supporters structured? How are conflicts resolved? How do legal tools appointing decision makers (Health Care Directives, Powers of Attorney) complement (or challenge) the structure or intent of supported decision making? Join us with any questions you may have about supported decision making in practice! [If you'd like to submit a question ahead-of-time please feel free to do so here]

WINGS Minnesota is a collaborative which is dedicated to supporting elders, persons with disabilities, family members and helpers, service providers, guardians and conservators through education; building a system that prioritizes supportive decision making and less restrictive alternatives to guardianship, and that maximizes autonomy for persons under guardianship; and sustaining a cooperative conversation where all guardianship stakeholders work to improve outcomes and increase self-determination for people who may need assistance making legal or medical choices.
Facilitation and support of WINGS MN is provided by MN Judicial Branch and the Center for Excellence in Supported Decision Making, a program of VOA MN.
The work of CESDM is supported in part by a Live Well at Home grant from MN Department of Human Services (DHS). Grantees carrying out projects under government sponsorship are encouraged to freely express their findings and conclusions. Therefore, points of view or opinions do not necessarily represent official DHS policy.
