welcome to unladylike

~ Glam shot by ATL photographer, feminist and gem Lizzy Johnston ~

It's overrrrrrrrrrr!

2016. What a dumpster fire.

Just look at how pissed we were on November 9. Across social media the day after the election, we collectively dropped three times more f-bombs than usual. THREE TIMES.

Paul Stollery / Medium

Paul Stolley tallied up All of the Fucks Given in 2016 on Medium and unearthed this gem:

"Women were significantly more sweary on social, with 58% of posts mentioning fuck coming from a woman. (Ed. note: Fuck yeah, we were.) This is possibly due to the whole vagina grabbing leader of the free world thing."

Then there's that other thing...

On December 28, we -- C&C -- published our final Stuff Mom Never Told You podcast. After 833 episodes, it's time to move onward and unladylikeward.

But we don't want to leave y'all behind while we jump off this cliff. Selfishly, we're both terribly afraid of heights and prefer as many hands to hold as possible at high altitudes. Objectively, your loyalty, encouragement, insights, vulnerability, hilarity, Ruth Bader Ginsburg appreciation and heaps of other charms make the Stuff Mom Never Told You community one of the internet's best.

Not that we're biased...

In all sincerity, the longstanding support and involvement of Stuff Mom Never Told You galpals, guypals and genderqueerpals have changed our lives personally and podcast-ily. As much as y'all have hopefully learned from the feminist tote bags of stats, studies and media sources we brough to each episode, you've taught us volumes about feminism, inclusivity, difference, exercising with boobs, the secret world of adult acne and so much more.

In fact, our future Unladylike book illustrated by your fave new illustrator Tyler Feder wouldn't be a glimmer on our horizons (resisting a herizons pun so hard) without each of you. We can never say it enough: Thank y'all.

Still feeling auld lang syne-y about SMNTY? Us, too.

Pop the leftover new year's champagne and pour one out to Cristen's round-up of 13 Stuff Mom Never Told You Episodes That Shook Up My Straight-White-Lady Perspective on Medium.

Nasty Women of the Week: Feminist Brewers Grabbing Back

Cheers to Makin Noise: a Pussy Riot Beer, brewed in dishonor of the Trump inauguration. Women from four Colorado breweries collaborated on the imperial saison, which they'll tap on Jan. 20 and donate a portion of proceeds to non-profits.

Along with packing a punch at 8 to 9 ABV, Westword notes Pussy Riot "will also be bright red, which will tie it into the name as well — in an in-your-face, menstrual kind of way."

Sidenote: How can we get to Denver for a Lady Justice Brewing field trip? If any Coloradans (or non-Coloradans) need a hell-raising talk / C&C consciousness raising
throwdown at their business, school, org, coven, etc. hollerrrrr.

Twitter Made Me Late Again: #ProtectOurCare

The GOP is champing at the bit to defund Planned Parenthood, even though federal tax dollars don't subsidize abortions. On Thursday, House Speaker Paul Ryan confirmed that Republican-backed legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, will include slashing funds to PP that provide apparently evil stuff like birth control and preventative healthcare for low-income women.

As usual, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards was having none of it and suggested folks take their complaints straight to Sen. Ryan's office:

Glad you asked! Right now, you can call @SpeakerRyan: 608-752-4050. If you're looking for more ways to get involved:

On the bright-ish side, The Associated Press noted how defunding Planned Parenthood might be a risky political move. A 2015 Gallup poll found 59 percent of Americans are OK with PP, "including more than a third of Republicans."
Bingeing It: Anybody else crazy for Crazyhead?
"I tore through the best-lady-friends-as-asskicking-demon-slayers dramedy Crazyhead on Netflix like it was my job." -  feminist TV critic, slayer lover and spritz enthusiast, Caroline
That's What She Said: Carrie Fisher

"I haven't ever changed who I am. I've just gotten more accepting of it. Being happy isn't getting what you want, it's wanting what you have."

Here's to a nasty 2017. We'll be back next week with all the Unladylike that's unfit to print.

In the meantime, we'd LOVE to hear from y'all as always. Have tips, requests, signal boosts, rants and/or life questions? Send 'em here. We can't wait to say hi and continue sharing more of what's to come in this helluva new year ahead.
