"This book has had the most impact on me this year. I have started to say goodbye to things in a very effective manner, and reading this book has changed my way of thinking dramatically. An excellent book to read at the start of a new year!"
- Simone, ABC The Hague staff, on Goodbye, Things by Fumio Sasaki
"There is something very soothing and clarifying in sitting down every day and writing by hand the interesting things that happened, updating your to-do list and/or tracking your habits. So if you are planning on having a New Year’s Resolution, starting a Bullet Journal is a good one."
- Tiemen, ABC Amsterdam staff, on The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll
"I wanted to live in this one. It has a dark fairytale-esque aspect to it that appealed to me very much, not to mention the beautiful writing itself. A sad and tragic and beautiful book, teaming up with a down-to-earth style, making it very unusual and indelible."
- Renate, ABC Amsterdam staff, on The Seas by Samantha Hunt
"Silence of the Lambs in the universe of 12 Monkeys. Monstrous murders. Deep Time."
- Jouke, ABC The Hague staff, on The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch
"Extremely vibrant and fun, Roly Poly is a bubblegum pop story about Phanta, a fearless roller-girl ready to kick ass. She goes on a fantastical psychedelic journey that takes everything she’s got."
- Jitse, ABC Amsterdam staff, on Roly Poly by Daniel Semanas
"Maybe The Favorite Read for me in 2018. The story is so sweet and tender and ... oh so sexy! You just want the best for the two main characters."
- Ester, ABC The Hague staff, on The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
"Finally a great book about extreme metal again! Lots of great interviews and recollection from the good old days. Also quite a lot of church burning and pigs blood. Good stuff."
- Sywert, ABC Amsterdam staff, on Blood, Fire, Death: The Swedish Metal Story by Ika Johannesson

Check out or sign up for our Events mailing if you want to be kept informed of future ABC happenings. We also post our upcoming events (and a lot of other informative literary content) on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
Here are just a few of the literary highlights to note in your diary for the coming year:
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas (February), Parkland by David Cullen (February), Machines Like Me by Ian McEwan (April), Outrages: Sex, Censorship and the Criminalisation of Love by Naomi Wolf (April), Upheaval: How Nations Cope with Crisis and Change by Jared Diamond (May), Serotonin by Michel Houellebecq (September), and Grand Union by Zadie Smith (October).
We reckon the most eagerly anticipated book of the year is The Testaments by Margaret Atwood, the sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, due this September.  Unless, of course, George R. R. Martin finally delivers on book 6 of his A Song of Ice and Fire series...
