This new Work Group is proving to be popular, with a focus on curriculum coherence, recovery planning, teacher development and student progress this year.
Early Career Teachers (ECTs) - Multiplicative Reasoning
Our online Work Group exclusively for secondary Early Career Teachers (first two years of teaching) is confirmed to start on Monday 29th November. The focus on Multiplicative Reasoning will support development of deeper understanding and connections for a topic that underpins around 80% of GCSE Foundation Tier. Making these connections explicit for children will help to reduce cognitive overload, seeing maths as 'not having much to remember' rather than 'it's difficult because there's too much to remember'. Encourage all ECTs in your department to book now to secure their place.
Following requests, we have space to allow teachers in their third year of teaching to join this Work Group, given the disruption they have had over the past two years.
Developing A Level Maths Pedagogy to support COVID recovery
Book now to join this A Level Work Group, taking place over four Wednesday afternoons, starting in December.
Years 5-8 Continuity Work Groups
These Work Groups, in Hereford, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton, enable Primary and Secondary colleagues to work collaboratively with a focus on pre-symbolic algebraic thinking and the new Checkpoints activities. Much of the excellent collaboration between schools has suffered over the past two years, so these Work Groups offers a chance to rekindle positive relationships.
Schools in the SHaW region that took part in the Multiplicative Reasoning version previously are encouraged to work together again using the enlightening new algebraic thinking materials. The lessons have been developed with the expertise of Dietmar Küchemann, who was also instrumental in developing many of the materials in the Multiplicative Reasoning project.

Years 7-11 Coherence: approaches to key topics
Our Years 7-11 Coherence Work Group replaces 'Challenging Topics' with participants agreeing a focus to consider longer term curriculum design for coherence.
SKTM - Non-specialists
Although SKTM for non-specialists has already started, we can accept new bookings, having recorded the first online workshop so that any late starters may catch up to join.

Teaching for Mastery for 2021-22
Teaching for Mastery Work Groups are suitable for all Secondary Maths departments, irrespective of whether you have setting or mixed attainment classes.
Developing Teaching for Mastery (includes £2000 funding for participating schools). We have Specialists in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wolverhampton. Please express interest for 2022-23.
Embedding Mastery (includes £1000 funding) - schools that participated in Developing Mastery last year are automatically enrolled for Embedding Mastery, starting on 22nd October.
Sustaining Mastery- all teachers that participated in Embedding or Sustaining in 2020/21 and Specialists (Cohorts 1-4) will automatically be enrolled, with the option to let us know if you would like to select different teachers from your department to participate this year.
AMSP Regional Online Network Meeting
The AMSP regional network meeting for Shropshire and Telford (and Stoke and Staffordshire) 1600-1730 on Mon 18th October has a focus on 'Support for year 11 and year 12 students. How has the first half term gone?'
