Women with Correctional Integrity Sponsor Warren/Lebanon Correctional Blood Drive

The Women with Correctional Integrity sponsored a mobile blood drive at the Warren Correctional Institution (WCI).   The Community Blood Center Donor Coach was on site from 11:00am-2:00pm to receive blood donations from both WCI and Lebanon Correctional Institution (LeCI) staff.  Warden Harris and Warden Schweitzer started the donations as the first blood draws of the day.  (read more...)

Ohio State Penitentiary Holds Employee Appreciation

An Employee Appreciation Meal was held at the Ohio State Penitentiary.  Executive staff and Employee Recognition Committee (ERC) members provided and served hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, chips, popcorn and water to all three shifts.  The event was sponsored by OSP’s local ERC as a "thank you" from Warden Sheldon for all of the great work his staff does!

Lorain Correctional Sponsors Book Bag and School Supply Drive

Lorain Correctional Institution (LorCI), Women in Corrections, sponsored a dress down week and the cost was one new book bag or a $10 donation.  Staff also donated various school supplies in addition to the book bags.   The donations and book bags were dropped off to Midview Schools in Grafton.  In additional to the supplies and book bags a check for $250 was presented to the school to be used towards school fees and such for those kids in need. Correctional Reception Center's 7-Step Foundation Donates to Habitat for Humanity 
The Correctional Reception Center’s (CRC) 7-Step Foundation presented The Scioto Valley Habitat for Humanity board members, Robin Knab and Charlie Heiss, with a donation of $1,000.00.  The money will help to maintain services of affordable housing in the Scioto Valley Region. (read more...)

"My Child and I" Day Hosted at Marion

Marion Correctional Institution (MCI) Recreation staff converted the chapel into a carnival atmosphere for the latest version of My Child and I Day. The event offered 50 offenders, their children and other family members the opportunity to interact while playing carnival style games, physical activities on the chapel yard and enjoying a shared meal. Birthday celebrations for the family members capped off the evening.  

Author Mimi Chenfeld Visits the Correctional Reception Center
Nationally known Columbus, Ohio Author, Educator and Lecturer Mimi Chenfeld came to the Correctional Reception Center. Offenders were given the opportunity to sign up to learn how to get their creative writing skills flowing. Everyone was in for a special treat as Ms. Chenfeld taught several ways to create new ideas and put them down on paper. (read more...)

Marion Correctional's Welding Class Creates and Donates Bike 
Dalas Roberts and the MCI Vocational Welding class offenders constructed a three-wheel bike for a young girl with a medical condition. The Marion City Police Department donated bikes that needed repaired to the class. The students were able to utilize parts from these bikes and then assembled, painted and welded components to create the three wheel bike.

Inmates Donate Sleeping Bags for Homeless
Inmates have been involved in such ventures as making recycling confiscated bicycles for community members and making Easter baskets for children spending the holiday in St. Rita’s Medical Center. Another way they are reaching out is by making sleeping bags and mats in the facility’s garment shop.
