Winter 2017

Dear <<First Name>>: 

What an epic winter we have had!  As you may recall, we postponed the TWIG meeting that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 2017, due to a blizzard and road closures.  As a wedding planner, I’m constantly “assessing the conditions” of an event and practicing risk management.  On January 7, as the January 10 date was drawing closer, and the weather forecast was sounding ominous, I had to make the call to reschedule the meeting.
 
More recently, I have learned the importance of “assessing our conditions” when we are selling our services to prospective clients.  At the rescheduled TWIG meeting on a beautiful Valentine’s Day, this was the topic covered by our guest speaker Ruth Schwartz.  An internationally certified business leadership coach, Ruth taught us about four unique behavioral styles.  To properly “assess our conditions” for successful sales, we need to first develop an understanding of our own style.  Then, when meeting with prospective clients, we need to quickly identify their styles, and tailor our sales approach to their styles in order to make a more effective connection.
 
Whatever your personal style may be, I hope that 2017 is shaping up to be an epic year for weddings!

Coming Soon… Our New Website
 
We are very excited that our new website is almost ready to launch, and at the TWIG meeting on Tuesday, February 14, we showcased a sneak preview of it.  During the development of the website, we recognized the importance of “speaking” to engaged couples, and we were concerned that the Tahoe Wedding Industry Group might sound a bit too “industrial” to a bride.  After considering several alternatives, we came up with the name Tahoe Engaged.  We love this name, and it got great reviews at the meeting!

 
We believe the word “Engaged” is meaningful in 3 different ways:
  • It represents the engaged couple getting married
  • It symbolizes the strong professional relationships that TWIG is fostering by creating a connected and engaged community for our Members.
  • Successful wedding service providers engage with the wedding couples to produce fabulous weddings
We are still keeping the name “TWIG” for the membership of our wedding professionals. In the website, we explain how the stringent membership requirements for TWIG enables couples to feel confident in choosing TWIG members for their wedding.

The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce has been serving its members and the greater North Lake Tahoe region for 61 years.  In 1996, the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce merged with the North Lake Tahoe Convention and Visitors Bureau under the umbrella of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, a 501(c)(4) non profit public benefit corporation.  Their mission is “to take specific actions to help improve the opportunity for local businesses to achieve and sustain success; to promote business, tourism, and the economic, cultural and civic welfare of the greater North Lake Tahoe community.”

Recap of Meeting and Photos
 
Inside the spacious and spectacular Grand Ballroom at The Chateau at Incline Village, forty meeting attendees gathered.  After everyone helped themselves to scrumptious breakfast treats provided by The Chateau, we played an icebreaker networking game to help everyone get to know each other better. 
 
Then our guest speaker, Ruth Schwartz, began her presentation, “Be A Wedding Sales Rock Star!”  Ruth outlined four basic behavioral styles, defined by the acronym “DISC.”
     D = Dominant – looking for RESULTS
     I = Influencer – looking for THE EXPERIENCE
     S = Steadiness – looking for SECURITY
     C = Compliant – looking for INFORMATION
 
Understanding which behavioral styles are strongest (and weakest) in yourself, as well as your prospective clients, is the key to success in sales.  Ruth provided a detailed worksheet for meeting attendees to fill out, which helped us to focus on the benefits of our services, as seen from the perspective of each of the 4 behavioral styles.
 
For anyone wishing to learn more, Ruth Schwartz offers a “Sales Genius Focus Session,” which includes a comprehensive assessment and a 1-hour private consultation with her.
