From Pastor Jeff

“The governor [Pilate] answered and said unto them, ‘Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you?’ They said, ‘Barabbas.’ Pilate saith unto them, ‘What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?’ [They] all say unto him, ‘Let him be crucified.’” [Matthew 27:21-22]

How could Providence possibly allow the likes of Barabbas to be set free and Jesus be condemned in his place? A murderer and rioter is given freedom in exchange for Jesus, wholly innocent?

Yet Barabbas represents all sinful men who without the determined and substitutionary offering of Jesus would yet be in the cell and snare of the consequences of their sin. Neither can one simply wash their hands as did Pilate and declare, “I am innocent,” for by such an act of self righteousness none can cleanse themselves.

But our Savior, while the multitudes whom he healed and fed now shouted vehemently, “Crucify him!”, our Jesus, “…the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross,” set His face like flint toward the glory of the cross and is now, “…set down at the right hand of the throne of God” [Hebrews 12:2].

Truly it is written, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:” Ephesians 2:8.

May this weeks teaching in Matthew 27:11-26 and the latest for the Old Testament Book of Judges be a blessing to you. They are now available in Petra's Audio Library, found by clicking the button below.

I would also like to wish you each a "Happy New Year!" and that in this 2017 we may all, “…grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen.” [2 Peter 3:18].

I Hope you have blessed week!

In Christ's Love,

Pastor Jeff
