Pre-Season is Scrimmage Season!
The Brawler’s are back at it. Our preseason has arrived and we’ve been working hard, on and off skates, to make this our best year yet. Recent scrimmages and unsanctioned games include matchups against Providence Roller Derby and Worcester Roller Derby, with more planned this month and next against Gotham Roller Derby’s Grand Central Terminators and Monadnock Roller Derby. We’re preparing for a competitive and exciting season, starting with the Punishers’ return to Coastal Chaos in Maine on April 27th, followed by three fun-filled home games on Saturdays June 9th, July 21st and August 11th. Don’t forget to like us on Facebook to stay up-to-date with the latest schedule and to find out which teams the Punishers and Brawlin’ Broads will be facing off with this season.

Did you catch the Roller Derby World Cup?

This February the Roller Derby World Cup took place in Manchester, UK. Just like soccer’s FIFA world cup, it occurs every four years and players from around the world compete with their home countries to bring home the gold. This year the tournament featured a record 38 women’s teams from around the world, including a first-ever team representing indigenous peoples of the world, over a 3 day weekend. The final game between USA and Australia was broadcast live on the BBC, marking a huge achievement for the advancement of the sport of roller derby. This year team USA claimed the gold, Australia the silver, and Canada the bronze. You can catch up (or re-watch) on YouTube.
