The Academy of Optometry meeting begins tomorrow at McCormick Place in Chicago (October 11-14).  The experts in ocular surface disease will be presenting several excellent lectures and workshops.  The presentations will offer clinically relevant information on how to identify and treat various causes of common OSD conditions.  Below are a few of the great courses available and a link is provided to more anterior segment classes.

AS-07: Demodex: Reflections, Connections and Misconceptions

For 175 years, the scientific community has recognized the human facial mite, Demodex. Yet only in the last 5-10 years has optometry really begun to acknowledge its significance. This lecture provides evidence-based information on the life habits of Demodex and its role in ocular surface disease, clarifying a multitude of misconceptions and establishing a clinical rationale for detection and management. AS-08: Rapid Fire: New Considerations in MGD Management
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
This rapid-fire session will look at new thoughts on the management of MGD including but not limited to new imaging techniques, devices and grading methods while also examining the effect of make up and digital device use on the presence and exacerbation of MGD. The session will finish with thoughts on where the treatment and management of MGD patients may go in the future. WK-07: Uncovering Demodex: The Latest in Diagnosis and Treatment
This workshop will look at new concepts for the management of Demodex blepharitis including slit lamp identification techniques, epilation and microscope evaluation of lash for demodex, treatment with tea tree oil as well as in office lid debridement and best practice for patient education. The workshop will be highly focused on building the practitioner's confidence as it pertains to identifying and treating demodex blepharitis.
