Sun King Bavarian Cheese and Pretzel - Our Sun King Brewery Bavarian Cheese & Pretzel Ale is a local darling! We prepare our recipe with the malt from SKB’s famous Sunlight Cream Ale, a gold medal recipient. This is a smooth easygoing and optimistic bite, just like our friends at the brewery!
 

Beef Inventory Update

Gillenwater Farms dropped off 5 calves for processing this week. We should be fully restocked on every beef cut in about 2- 3 weeks. In the meantime, we are trying to whittle down some of our inventory to make room! Bags of soup bones from Gillenwater Farms will be 50% off this week .

Paige and Jordan Gillenwater

I began taking care of my first calf 16 years ago and have loved working with livestock ever since. After graduating from Purdue University, I bought the farm adjacent to my family’s farm and continued farming grain, hay, produce, and raising cattle. After our marriage in May 2020, Paige moved from Westfield, IN, to Gillenwater Farms near Darlington. Paige has been working hard to make our farm more accessible to our customers. We are looking forward to having you out on the farm for events and tours soon!
We joined Four Seasons Local Market in December of 2019 and have loved the community we found there -- both with the other farm families and our wonderful customers! FSLM gives us the opportunity to get to know our customers and better meet their needs. After five generations of farming in this community, Crawfordsville and all of Montgomery County have become incredibly special to us.
Beef sold from Gillenwater Farms comes from calves that were born and raised on our Montgomery County farm. Calves and cows always have free access to grass and hay. The calves are offered a rationed blend of locally grown corn with mineral supplements sourced from a local feed mill. All beef from Gillenwater Farms contains absolutely no added hormones or chemicals. The calves and cows love sweets just as much as we do, and sometimes get treats such as apples from the farm or extra sweet corn from Hole’s Sweet Corn in the summer!
We work alongside my grandparents on their vegetable farm to continue the tradition of providing safe, high quality produce that they started decades ago. Paige and I have partnered with my family as owners and operators of my grandparents’ farm and market, Hole’s Sweet Corn.

We have been raising sheep for almost 20 years since we purchased our small farm to raise animals for our kids to show in 4-H. When our daughter went to college, we became more serious about marketing our pasture raised lambs to customers, caterers and chefs locally. Wendy began attending two farmers markets each summer until we joined the partnership to open this local food store in 2016.
Four years later, we are still excited to see customers walk through the door to purchase locally grown food and items made in Indiana. We enjoy raising sheep, laying hens and growing vegetables. We take great pride in delivering a quality product to our local community. Wendy makes the handmade soap, wool dryer balls and hand dyes the yarn from our sheep.
With Scott’s new role at Wabash College as President, you may not see us quite as much but we still look forward to providing lamb, eggs and soap as we adapt to our new roles. Family Bio...As the farming focus of the Shannon Family evolved, it became evident that small scale, niche market, livestock production would be the goal for Shannon Family Farms. Raising pastured hogs has become our main focus; however, we maintain layer hens and raise a few cattle and meat birds throughout the year.
​Our pastured pork comes from piglets purchased shortly after weaning from local farmers with whom we have built relationships. These pigs enjoy a free choice feed and a natural pasture complete with muddy wallows and a windbreak shelter. Our meat chickens are shipped directly from Welp Hatchery as day-old chickens. Our layer chickens arrive as day-old chicks from a hatchery as well. Through our selective alliances with local farmers and hatcheries, we can ensure our animals are being raised responsibly. The careful selection of animals and our dedication to caring for them in the most natural way ensures your family is purchasing high quality meat and/or eggs from a trusted source. We use This Old Farm (Colfax, IN) as our processor for all the species we raise. Over the years, we have built a trusted relationship with them and have been able to bring some uniqueness to the products we offer our customers.
In 2021, we are excited to invite customers to our farm as we open “Fresh Cut by SFF”, a You-Pick Flower Farm, by converting an area that was previously pasture into rows of annuals for cutting and enjoying in your own home. Along with the field experience of cutting your own flowers, we will offer grab-n-go arrangements from the farm and at Four Seasons Local Market as our supply allows. We are very excited to begin this new venture and allow our daughters even more responsibility and ownership in our family business as they grow and mature.

Farmstead Bakery was started in a tiny kitchen in Avon, Indiana with an order for cupcakes for my Grandma Gray. That first cupcake order grew into baking for the farmer’s market and eventually an invitation to join the Four Seasons family. Being diagnosed with Celiac, Rachael does a lot of gluten free baking and is passionate about making sure those that are gluten free can enjoy quality baked goods.  While we have gotten the opportunity to meet several of you at the store this past month, there are so many we still have yet to meet so here’s a little about us!
Kyle and Rachael met at Purdue University where they both graduated from the College of Agriculture in 2016. Since graduation, Kyle has worked with local farmers and producers at his job at Farm Credit Mid-America. Rachael worked in the meat processing industry, most recently as a butcher at a local meat processor, while running Farmstead Bakery on nights and weekends. Upon joining Four Seasons, Rachael was able to quit her job and pursue her passion running Farmstead Bakery full time. Besides baking, we love spending time with our fur-children and traveling the world. So far we have made it to 12 different countries! We’re always happy to come back home to this wonderful community and hope to be here as long as you’ll have us!
