For All Schools
1. Preliminary MCAS Data Scheduled for Delivery on Tuesday, August 9
By August 9, schools and districts will have access to partial preliminary results in all assessed grades from the spring 2022 MCAS test administration in ELA, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering (STE). The file, in .CSV format, will be available in the MCAS 2022 folder in DropBox Central, accessed through the Department’s Security Portal. Interactive reports will be available in Edwin Analytics on August 16.
The preliminary data file contains points per item, raw scores, and participation status. Scaled scores and achievement levels will be included for all tests except high school STE, which will be posted to DropBoxes in late August; student growth percentiles will not be available for ELA and Mathematics until the official release of results in mid-September.
As a reminder, preliminary data are embargoed from public release, but should be used for educational planning purposes within the school and district, including summer acceleration, IEP meetings, and curricular decisions. Aggregate data may not be shared outside your organization.

2. MCAS Discrepancy Reporting Window: August 9–12
To coincide with the delivery of preliminary MCAS data files on August 9 as described in item 1 above, the 2022 MCAS discrepancy reporting window is scheduled for August 9–12.
Schools are asked to plan now for staff to be available during the August 9–12 window to review preliminary results. Discrepancies reported after August 12 will not be included in MCAS Parent/Guardian Reports or in the public release of official school and district MCAS results.
In preparation for the discrepancy reporting window, principals should designate staff to review the preliminary data files for the following:
- Confirm that all students enrolled during the entire testing window are included in the school/district data file.
- Confirm that each tested student is listed only once, with a valid SASID.
- Verify that each student’s test participation status is correct.
- Verify that each student’s first-year English Learner (EL) status is correct.
To assist schools in reviewing students' first year EL status, the Department will place a first-year EL file in .CSV format, based on historical SIMS, in the MCAS 2022 folder in DropBox Central.
As in previous years, discrepancies in the areas noted above can be reported using the Discrepancy Reporting tool on the MCAS Service Center website. Prior to the opening of the window, instructions on how to identify and report discrepancies will be posted on the MCAS Service Center website and in DropBox Central.
The Department is planning to share additional information on the discrepancy reporting process in early August. Information will be provided in a future Student Assessment Update.
