MCAS Discrepancy Reporting Window: August 912
As noted in the July 14 Student Assessment Update, the MCAS Discrepancy Reporting Window will be open August 9–12. To assist schools in using the discrepancy reporting tool on the MCAS Service Center, the Department will provide a pre-recorded training session, which will be available on the MCAS Resource Center on August 9. To view the presentation, navigate to the bottom of the Training page and select the webinar and PowerPoint slides titled “MCAS 2022 Preliminary Data and Discrepancy Reporting Conference.” The presentation includes updates on spring 2022 reporting, instructions on how to report a potential discrepancy, and a schedule of upcoming preliminary and official reporting dates.

To help schools and districts review their preliminary spring 2022 MCAS data, the following resources will be available in the 2022 MCAS Data folder in DropBox Central in the Department's Security Portal:
  • Spring 2022 MCAS Discrepancy Reporting Guide, in .PDF format (available now)
  • First-year English learner status for students enrolled in March and June SIMS (years in Massachusetts verified by historical SIMS), in .CSV format (available now)
  • Preliminary assessment participation data, aggregated by student group and subject, in .CSV format (available August 10)
Scaled scores and achievement levels are not yet available. All raw scores are available for review, including the essays and hand-scored constructed responses. More information will be shared in a future Student Assessment Update.

Please note that discrepancies reported after August 12 will not be included in MCAS Parent/Guardian Reports or in the public release of official school and district MCAS results.

Questions about the discrepancy reporting process or discrepancy reporting tool should be directed to the MCAS Service Center at 800-737-5103 or mcas@cognia.org; policy questions should be directed to the Office of Student Assessment Services at 781-338-3625 or mcas@doe.mass.edu.
