Ahoy sailor!

Happy August! Our docks were especially busy in July, with plenty of ASA courses, Monday Night KeelBoat Club races and Wednesday Night races, and KidShip boats getting out on the water to make the best summer memories. We’ve had an incredible past few months of summer sailing on the Severn and we can’t wait to keep the fun going this month and into Fall.

Even though summer is winding down, we're still adding more courses to finish out the season. Looking to improve your sailing? Check out our Beyond Basic course, a two-day class on our Caraluna  245 by Tartan to advance your sail trim and spinnaker flying skills.

Ready to get out on the water? Come rent with us or check out our open course offerings.

Questions? Bookings? Give us a call.

See you on the water!

Fair winds,

What's Happening at Annapolis Sailing School

Fourth of July fireworks in Annapolis are always great, but the best view is on the beach at Annapolis Sailing School. Our KeelBoat Club loved the party!
Our sailors loved our ASA 114 courses on a 46-foot cruising catamaran! Students got to enjoy the fun and challenge of multihull sailing in the Bay.
Get them started early! Our KidShip campers have been having a blast this summer learning new skills and making memories on the water.
Summers are for racing in Annapolis! Despite a few stormy evenings, our KeelBoat Club Monday Night Rainbow races have been going strong all summer.
Cruising Cats
We've figured out one of the best ways to stay cool in the summer: cruising the Chesapeake on a 46-foot catamaran!

In July, we ran two sessions of ASA 114: Cruising Catamarans. Led by our Director of Adult Sailing Ricky, students got hands-on experience and confidence sailing the Bay, practicing docking and learning the intricacies of catamaran sailing.

Check out the fun in this short vlog by one of our students and KeelBoat Club members, John!

Dinghy Day!

Another way to stay cool in the dog days of summer: dinghy sailing!

One of our most popular KeelBoat Club events is Dinghy Day. Sailors spend the day learning the basics of sailing small, fast boats, doing capsize drills and putting all their skills to the test in a fun afternoon free sail in the river. While our dinghy fleet can be a challenging jump from the stable Rainbow 24s, sailors love getting to try new boats and have a blast sailing around!

Directly across the river from the Sailing School, Greenbury Point is a scenic hidden gem offering peaceful walking trails with scenic views of the Severn. For sailors, the peninsula may be better known for its three 600-foot tall radio towers, an iconic landmark for navigation and a welcome sight for boats coming back into the harbor.

However, this delicate conservation area is being considered for the possible development of a second exclusive golf course by the U.S. Navy. While it's unclear if the iconic towers will disappear if the plan moves forward, the critical wetlands and natural areas are at risk of development.

this article from the Bay Journal.

Insider Dining Tip: Not feeling up to cooking, or looking for a beautiful night out on the town? Check out Dinner Under the Stars on West Street in downtown Annapolis on Wednesday nights from 6-10pm! The weekly event features a number of restaurants offering outdoor dining and live music! Tsunami Sushi Bar and Restaurant comes highly recommended from our marketing director Natalie.
Contribution Corner: CRAB Cup

Who says you can't sail and support a great cause at the same time? The annual CRAB Cup perfectly combines the two in a fun one-day regatta raising funds for Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating, an organization dedicated to making boating easy and adaptive for everyone. Powerboaters can also join in the fun with the Poker Pursuit by taking selfies at five different designated locations across the Bay. The organization also runs the Skippers' Challenge, an online fundraising competition that pairs with the regatta. At the end of the day, all come together to celebrate at an awards party at Eastport Yacht Club.

To learn more about the regatta, check out CRAB's regatta page here. To donate to the Skippers' Challenge and support CRAB's mission, click here.

Try Sailing Now!
Many of our TellTales readers have taken courses at the Sailing School in the past or are now members of our KeelBoat Club. However, for those who haven't gotten a chance to try their hand at the helm yet (or for sailors who have friends wanting to try!), we have the solution: a two-hour introductory TrySail — perfect for potential sailors, family outings, dates and more!

We're running TrySails on our Rainbow 24s all summer long at the Sailing School. Cruises are available Saturdays and Sundays at 10am and 2pm. $99 for one person, $165 for two. And if you decide you love sailing and are ready to commit to a multi-day course, the $99 can be applied toward the ASA 101 course fee! For more information and to book, call the Sailing School at 410-267-7205.
Rigging Refresher
Let us guess: it's been a while since you rigged a Rainbow. Watch our rigging video for a refresher on rigging. And if you have an ASA 101 class coming up, the video is a great way to get ahead beforehand.
