PTI Matters is a little light this week...

Which may be a good thing. Could it possibly mean some of the start-of-term drama is wrapping up? We certainly hope so! As we find our stride for Spring 2017, we thank you for your patience and willingness to work out all the administrative kinks with which you've been bombarded. Keep on keepin' on...

If you are a graduate student or post-doc who incurred the following PTI-related transportation expenses in February, please submit the appropriate documentation through Concur by March 15:
  • Public transportation
  • Uber, Lyft, or other taxi service
We cannot reimburse mileage costs for instructors using their own vehicles. If you're new to the system, check out these tips for establishing a Concur profile and submitting your reimbursement request. Feel free to email or call Tara if you need help!

Now is also a good time to remind you to create an Enterprise Car-Share account if you haven't already. This service is a cost-effective and handy way of getting to and fro if you have a US driver's license. It takes about two weeks to process, though, so keep that in mind as you plan the second half of the term!

Here are our instructor support office hours for March 6-10:
  • Wednesday, March 8, 12-1pm (PTI Office): Hosted by Jannette Carey
  • Thursday, March 9, 1-3pm (Peyton 106): Hosted by Jill Knapp (also available by appointment or through email at
Additionally, Tara is in the PTI office Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30am to 6pm, and you are always welcome to contact members of our Leadership Team.

JOIN THE DAY OF ACTION! (A carryover message from last week)
On Monday, March 6, the Citizen Scientists group on campus is sponsoring a Day of Action that features more than 50 teach-in activities during the course of the day. PTI has proposed a session in the impact of higher education mass incarceration, and we could certainly use a hand in making that happen! If you're interested in assisting, please email Tara at or Jenny at

  • DOCUMENTARY: In case you didn't know, Ava DuVernay's 13TH was nominated for an Oscar this year. Check out this All Things Considered podcast from December in which DuVernay discusses her motivation for making the film, which presents mass incarceration as an extension of slavery.
I hope PTI Matters will continue to grow and be ever more useful to our teachers and friends. Please feel free to email your news blurbs and other suggestions to so we can highlight them here!
You've got your pick of national holidays today...You might choose to celebrate Employee Appreciation Day, I Want You to be Happy Day, If Pets Had Thumbs Day, National Anthem Day, National Salesperson Day, or Peach Blossom Day. I'm fresh out of words...
