On August 17th the ESA BIC CH team headed off to their yearly team event plus review meeting during which selected topics were being reviewed and discussed in depth. The team was "enriched" by Philip Hassler, José Achache and Johann Richard from the “extended team” as well. The excursion took us to a wind tunnel this time around, which literally swept everyone off their feet and enabled us to experience the “free dive” in air. Everyone enjoyed the new experience and of course the team bonding and exchange before and after.

The next Community Building Event on HR and Recruiting took place on August 18th virtually. Mardit Matian from EH Group (ESA BIC CH Alumni) and Stefan Abel & Clarissa Convertino from Lumiphase (ESA BIC CH Incubatee) talked about common mistakes, development strategies for early-stage start-ups and company culture. Thanks to the great preparation by the two alumni it was a vivid exchange, even online.

On August 30th ESA BIC CH organized a SEO (Search Engine Optimization) workshop with their partner Farner Consulting AG. The participants were introduced to different ways to implement, enhance, and measure the performance and visibility of their websites.

Archimethod

Transforming high-resolution spaceborne 3D geodata into crucial information to design healthy and sustainable cities.

Archimethod is a multidisciplinary office that operates on the borders between architectural design and technological innovation. Their field of expertise relates to the analysis of environmental properties related to view, airflow, mobility, and the sun, all crucial factors for both human comfort and sustainability.

Archimethod uses a set of self-developed and off-the-shelf technologies related to spatial simulation, building performance, and computational design that provide them with new means of digital intelligence to answer functional questions of architecture and to address topics like position, orientation, and shape of buildings, configuration of external surfaces, production and consumption of energy, distribution and subdivision of internal spaces, circulation and interaction of people.

Start-up highlights

Corintis

were featured in an article in a Swiss-French newspaper and in a video made by VentureKick. They also won Venture Kick III.

CondenZero

successfully tested a newly constructed helium transfer tube. Helium consumption is cut almost in half with that new sub-product.

Kido Dynamics

closed a first deal with JCDecaux, the world's largest Out-of-Home advertising company. This deal is the first for a multi-national expansion in Latin America and Europe.

NematX

managed to reduce the average print time per part by at least 50% with their new high-precision 3D printer and also received three new purchase orders.

RigiTech

hosted a local kids summer camp to explain drones and encourage STEM in the next generation.

SoHHytec

won the first round of the Swisscom Sustainability Challenge 2022 and is among the10 finalists and won the Venture Leaders Cleantech 2022.

XRnanotech

received a purchase order from a company that makes laser communication in space scalable.

Alumnus Sevensense

entered a partnership with Rapyuta Robotics, which aims to yield the next generation of autonomous mobile robots based on 3D visual SLAM and cloud robotics.

Alumnus MIRO Analytical

installed a brand-new MIRO MGA7-GP on the Hardau building 100m above Zurich. The instrument is monitoring CO2, CO, N2O, CH4, H2O, NO, NO2 all simultaneously and at 10Hz providing insights about the fluxes of those pollutants and greenhouse gases.
