On Monday evening we had an end of course celebration dinner with our Leadership Programme Students.  The students were 12 people in Croydon Vineyard who for the last year gave one Monday evening a month to really press into Jesus and all he has for them.  During the dinner each student gave a 2 minute testimony of how Jesus had changed them this year.  It was heart-breaking to hear of some really challenging years - unexpected grief, major illnesses, deep personal struggles, feeling of inadequacy and significant confusion - and yet as each person spoke of their troubles they also testified to a joy which was somehow greater than the pain; joy that Jesus had been there with them and - even more than that - that Jesus had used the troubles to bring healing and revelation to them in a way that went beyond anything they could have received if their year had been trouble free.

And that is the beauty of our God and our leader; he doesn't take us out of suffering and trouble, instead he uses it to set us free.  It's the mystery of the gospel supremely revealed in the crucifixion of Christ.  If you are reading this and you are suffering troubles of many kinds please do choose to do what these 12 students have done; cling onto Christ, never withdraw your permission for him to lead you and to change you, and - just as importantly - press into community, letting others bear your burdens and walk this road with you as you ask them for prayer or just reach out to them for a chat.  If you do those 2 simple things you will find that while weeping may stay for the night, rejoicing does indeed come in the morning.

With much affection

Tom and Lesley
Our Croydon Vineyard Football Academy for 11-14 year olds is well over its halfway mark and we've had a great time! Simon Foune and his team offer free, turn-up-and-play football sessions, 10.30am-12noon at Lloyd Park on Saturday mornings. The sessions comprise of skills drills, teaching on Kingdom values and matches. There'll be back this this Saturday morning - new young people are still more than welcome to the final 3 sessions so please do spread the word! Plans afoot for September relaunch - watch this space...

A large number of our youth group Alyve are preparing for their trip to Soul Survivor festival at the end of August. This festival has been a huge blessing to the young people on previous visits and we're excited by all that's to come this year. As part of their training and discipleship we're encouraging them to raise their own funds for their transport and food costs. On Sunday July 14th they will be washing cars during the morning service as one way of fund raising, they'll also be selling home baked goods at both morning and evening services. We'd love you to bless their sweat!!
