NOMINATE NOW FOR RAC WA SPORTS AWARDS

Nominations have opened for the RAC WA Sports Awards to be celebrated at Optus Stadium on Thursday, 7 February 2019.

It's time to reflect on the outstanding achievements made by the many people who contribute to WA sport, with nominations called for in the eight categories, culminating in The West Australian RAC Sport Star Award.

FOOTBALL WEST HAS FIVE JOBS ON OFFER

Football West is seeking a competition manager to be responsible for the effective management of competitions, in particular the Amateur, State and National Premier Leagues. 

This full-time role is also responsible for building quality relationships with the key stakeholders of those Leagues as well as effectively leading a team of competition officers. Click here for more information or email

REGIONAL POSTS AVAILABLE AT NETBALL WA

Netball WA's 2018-2022 Strategic Plan outlines key outcomes, goals and strategies across four pillars; people and culture, participation, pathway and business performance, all driving the sport in its purpose of “Advancing Netball, Advancing Communities”.

As part of that plan, it will implement nine regional offices across staffed by Netball WA employees in the key positions of membership coordinator, development coordinator and officials coordinator, presenting career opportunities within the organisation. Please follow the link

PUBLIC OPINION SOUGHT ON LOCAL GOVERNMENT
 

The objective of the review of the Local Government Act 1995 is for Western Australia to have a new, modern Act that empowers local governments to better deliver for the community. The vision is for local governments to be agile, smart and inclusive.

And because Local Governments play a big part in making community sport happen, public comment is being sought and your views are important to shape future decisions and policy. The next stage of the review will result in a new Local Government Act as it considers nine key topic areas and local governments and community members are currently invited to have a say on some or all of the reform areas.

NEW CHAIR FOR LOTTERYWEST AND HEALTHWAY

The WA Government have welcomed the appointment of new Lotterywest and Healthway chairperson, Professor Peter Klinken who has been appointed for a three-year term to lead  the Lotterywest and Healthway Board of Commissioners.

In 2017-18, Lotterywest delivered $260m in grants including $104m to 785 not-for-profit community organisations and local governments across Western Australia.

GROUP AIMS TO IMPROVE GENDER DIVERSITY

The Gender Diversity Advisory Group, tasked with developing strategies and initiatives to improve gender diversity in the sport and recreation industry, met recently for the first time with an objective to facilitate industry input and feedback to improve and sustain diversity, and provide recommendations to the State Government.

The group comprises of 13 members with a mix of interests and experience including backgrounds in business, community, not-for-profit, education, and sport and recreation.

MAJOR REVAMP FOR NETBALL WA

Netball WA has launched Metro League which is designed to underpin the West Australian Netball League as the group undergoes its biggest changes in its 30-year history. A pilot season will begin in 2019.


Seven new clubs will compete in a revamped WANL competition commencing next year, with Netball WA to add an eighth club for the 2020-2021 seasons.

HARWOOD CLAIMS FIFTH DAN BLACK BELT

Platinum Taekwon-Do instructor Sabumnim Michael Harwood was promoted to the rank of Fifth Dan Black Belt recently in a gruelling grading under Master Peter Barbour of South Perth Taekwon-Do.

Harwood consolidated his performance at the recent ITF World Cup in Sydney—where he won two gold, a silver, and a bronze—with a determined and impressive performance.

BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR BASEBALL WA AT INDUSTRY GOLF DAY

Basketball WA relinquished its Industry Golf Day crown to Baseball WA at the recent Collier Park get-together where all participants enjoyed a fun day hosted by WASF with support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
 
More than 60 golfers of all abilities joined in the teams’ event, including current Wallaby Dane Haylett-Petty, to a range of WASF members, government partners and WASF partners from RAC Insurance.
 
Basketball were gallant in defeat, taking second place while the team with the catchy name, Dude Where’s My Par – a combined team from the WA Speedway Commission, Water Polo WA, Diving WA and DLGSC – were third.
 
Nearest the pin winners were Cameron Britt (Basketball WA) and Mike Allenby (WASF), while the longest drive winners were Steven Rose (Diving WA) and Warwick Saupold (Baseball WA).  Geoff Wolfenden’s team carried off some wine and free golf lessons at Collier Park after collecting the NAGA award.

 
KEY APPOINTMENT AT SPORT AUSTRALIA

Sport Australia has announced the appointment of Katrina Schildberger to the agency in a key integrity management role.

Set to soon commence her role as Deputy General Manager Integrity, Schildberger brings a wealth of experience in leading reform in integrity and cultural change, having spent more than 25 years with the Australian Army.
