STRATEGIC FUNDING REVIEW RELEASED

The Minister's Strategic Funding Review findings have been released with an implementation strategy also included, following broad industry consultation over the past 12 months.

The review contains 22 findings and 12 recommendations to ensure the effectiveness of department funding programs, with an outline aimed at achieving a more equitable and transparent funding model.

NEW WANL ERA LAUNCHES TONIGHT

The re-vamped WA Netball League (WANL) gets under way at the State Netball Centre tonight as Women's and Men's teams start their campaigns in WA's premiere netball competition.

With seven clubs competing, the WANL is the primary pathway to the West Coast Fever program for WA netballers.

GREEN LIGHT FOR GOLDFIELDS MOTORSPORT

The WA Government has announced the formation of a Project Steering Group to guide the upgrade of Kalgoorlie-Boulder's existing motorsport infrastructure, and plan for future needs.

The steering group will include representatives from clubs and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and any other relevant organisations.

FEVER CAPTAIN SELECTED IN WORLD CUP SQUAD

West Coast Fever captain Courtney Bruce has been selected in a World Cup squad for the first time.

After falling at the final hurdle at last years Commonwealth Games, Courtney and her Diamonds team mates will be looking to make it a fourth straight World Cup title in England in July.

WA community cricket volunteers have cleaned up at the Cricket Australia's "A Sport For All" Awards in Melbourne, taking out five categories.

WACA General Manager of Community Cricket Jo Davies said it was a fantastic way to showcase all the good work that's happened in WA community cricket.

WELCOME TO NEW FEDERAL MINISTER

Sport Australia (SA) and the Australian Institute of Sport have welcomed new Federal Minister for Sport Senator the Hon. Richard Colbeck.

With Minister Colbeck also taking on the portfolios of Youth and Aged Care and Senior Australians, SA CEO Kate Palmer said it complemented SA's priority to get more Australian moving more often.

SPORT AUSTRALIA COMMITS TO RECONCILIATION

Sport Australia CEO Kate Palmer is encouraging all sports to celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make to Australian sport, during Reconciliation Week, 27 May to 3 June.

"Opportunity is critical, we know sport can assist in engaging Indigenous communities and improving their health and wellbeing," Palmer said.
