NETSETGO ON THE WAY TO WARNBRO

Netball WA has announced that Suncorp NetSetGO is headed to Warnbro, with an all abilities inclusive program set to commence in May at Aqua Jetty.

The training sessions will be open to children of all abilities, with activities and instruction appropriately targeted to the child’s skill level in order to develop children’s self-esteem, motivation and fundamental motor skills. Netball WA community engagement manager, Amy Fuller, encouraged parents in the City of Rockingham to explore this unique opportunity for their children. <<READ MORE>>

AMATEURS AND PROS CLASH AT MELVILLE GLADES

The West Australian men’s amateur team is set to revive an old rivalry as it prepares to try and win the Interstate Series for the first time since 1999. The amateurs will clash with an all-star PGA WA outfit – headlined by 2017 ISPS Handa World Super 6 champion Brett Rumford - at Melville Glades on March 31.

The contest between pros and amateurs, previously a highlight of the local golfing calendar, has been brought back after a seven-year hiatus and will form a central part of the State team’s preparations for May’s Interstate Series. <<READ MORE>>

UNITE ON THE SWAN FOR WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

Canoeing WA will stage its annual Unite on the Swan event on April 9 in a Guinness world record attempt to get more than 3150 water craft rafted up.

C
anoes, skis and kayaks, both pedal and paddle propelled, are all accepted under the world record regulations.

PLAWA SEMINAR AT WEMBLEY GOLF COURSE

Parks and Leisure Australia (WA branch) will conduct a seminar at the Wembley Golf Course on March 31 to discuss business innovation, facility development and activation, and leading practice in grounds, water and tree management at the course.

With four noted speakers, organisers suggest the seminar will appeal to community development directors, park managers, leisure managers and planners, recreation and community development officers, golf course managers and supervisors.

TRIGG POINT PLAYS HOST TO YOUNG GUNS

The fourth event of the World Surf League sanctioned Subway® Surf Series will be held at Trigg Point this weekend where some of the country's best young surfers will compete. 

Yallingup trio Kael Walsh, Duke Nagtzaam, and Josh Cattlin will be out to fly the flag for WA while Moses Le Grice (East Fremantle), Alex McGuffin (Bicton) and Fletcher Llanwarne (Sorrento) will be leading the charge for the local metropolitan surfers on their home break

DSR WORKSHOP ON MANAGING PEOPLE 

The Department of Sport and Recreation in partnership with JGC Group is presenting a free program of six new informative and interactive workshops for community sport and recreation clubs.  

The third of these workshops, on March 22, is “Managing your Club People” which focuses on assisting clubs to understand key roles within the club, how to recognise and reward people, the key principles of volunteer management and how to plan for future needs. COATES BACKS PERTH GAMES BID

One of Australia's most senior sporting officials John Coates has supported calls for Perth or another Australian city to step-in and replace Durban as host of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The South African city was stripped of the event by the Commonwealth Games Federation following a lack of progress since they were awarded hosting rights in September 2015. David Grevemberg, chief executive of the CGF, said is confident a replacement for Durban will be found but no timeline has been established.

DSR TO HOST TEAM MANAGERS COURSE

The Department of Sport and Recreation will host a course for experienced team managers who manage teams for an event, senior club teams or representative teams at its headquarters in Vincent Street on April 2.
 
The Managing Senior Club and Representative Teams Program, which is a mix of knowledge and skill development, covers the competition and team development cycles, life cycle and deals with a wide range of team manager duties and tasks, anti-doping, team health and well-being, travel and transport logistics issues, code of conduct, responsibilities of the team manager and their involvement in the team. <<READ MORE>>  
WYLIE GETS ANOTHER THREE YEARS AS ASC CHAIR

Federal Minister for Sport Greg Hunt  has announced the reappointment of John Wylie as Chair of the Australian Sports Commission board for a further three years.

Mr Wylie has headed the ASC board since 2012 and is also Chair of the ASC Governance and Executive Performance Committee. Minister Hunt said Mr Wylie had overseen an impressive reform agenda of the ASC and the Australian Institute of Sport through the implementation of the high performance strategy, Australia’s Winning Edge 2012-2022 and the companion strategy for participation, Play.Sport.Australia.

CARROLL APPOINTED CEO OF AOC

The AOC has appointed Matt Carroll as its CEO following a global search by recruitment firm, Odgers Berndtson that involved 322 potential candidates.

Mr Carroll is an accomplished senior sports administrator with over 25 years of experience in all aspects of sports administration, including as deputy CEO, Australian Rugby Union; general manager, Rugby World Cup 2003; head of A-League and Community Football, Football Federation Australia; and CEO, Australian Sailing. He was interim COO and executive advisor to Japan Rugby and World Cup 2019 in the early years of preparation for that tournament.
