REGISTRATIONS OPEN FOR INDUSTRY GOLF DAY

Calling all golfers - those with or without an official handicap -  it's that time of the year again when WASF, with support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, presents the Sport and Recreation Industry Golf Day.

This year's big bash on October 12 will again be held at the Collier Park Golf Course where the entry fee includes 18 holes in a four-ball ambrose format. carts for all players,  and some food before and after the action, along with the opportunity to do some networking throughout the day.

GYMNASTICS WA SEEKS NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Gymnastics WA is looking to fill vacancies on its board of Gymnastics and expressions of interest are invited from people with the capacity and interest to contribute to the development of the sport.

Ideally the successful candidates will be experienced in the legal or finance areas. INCLUSION SOLUTIONS FORUM ON OCTOBER 3

Inclusions Solutions will hold a Social Inclusion Forum - suitable for both professionals and volunteers in the sport and recreation sector - on October 3 at the Bendat Community Centre from 4pm to 6pm.

ASF FUNDRAISING WORKSHOP COMING IN OCTOBER

The Australian Sports Foundation generates over $40m a year for investment in Australian sport, and there's a workshop coming up for clubs in need of more funding on Monday 8 October from 6pm to 8pm, at Sport & Recreation WA - 246 Vincent St, Leederville.

Funding can be used for anything that develops your club, team or sport (uniforms, travel, better equipment, facility upgrades, just to name a few).

NEW RUNNING EVENT ALONG THE TURQUOISE COAST

The inaugural Wildflower Festival of Running, a two-day event along the Turquoise Coast north of Perth, kicks off on October 13 with a gallop through the Pinnacles before  a sealed path run at Jurien Bay the following day. 

The events suit all level of individual abilities and training while providing a challenge with distances that will suit everyone as the events range from 5km to 10km to the 21.1km half-marathon. Times can be added to achieve a two day result.

SOUTH WEST ACADEMY REACHES MILESTONE

The South West Academy of Sport has celebrated 10 years of developing sporting talent in the region with Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray joining athletes, supporters and staff to mark a decade of achievement.

Launched in 2008 as Western Australia's first regional sports academy, SWAS has assisted a long list of aspiring country athletes to reach their potential, including Kookaburra Jake Harvie, professional surfer Bronte Macaulay and BMX rider Lauren Reynolds

COLES PROVIDES FUNDS FOR LITTLE ATHS

Coles has established a new community fund to provide grants for sports equipment to Little Athletics centres with funds raised from selected Community Bags.

As of this month, Little Athletics centres can apply for grants of up to $5000 to replace or expand their sports equipment for the upcoming season.

The WA branch of Parks and Leisure Australia has places available for its Spring playspace tour to the north eastern corridor to find out what makes a good playspace.
