The thoughts of the WA sports community are with the Gilmour family after the passing of inspirational West Australian John Gilmour on Wednesday at 99 years of age.

John has inspired generations of athletes at home and around the world.  His resilience in surviving as a prisoner of war, and overcoming this adversity to return as a world class masters athlete has him entrenched as a remarkable Western Australian.

SAFE CLUBS FOR 4 KIDS IN THE PILBARA

At the invitation of Sport & Recreation WA's Pilbara regional office, the Town of Port Hedland, the City of Karratha and the Shire of Ashburton, Safe Clubs 4 Kids will be presented to the local communities of Port Hedland, Karratha, Tom Price and Paraburdoo.

The sport and recreation communities will have access to education on the Working With Children Check and Child Safeguarding.

PONY CLUB SEEKS DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

Pony Club WA has a position for a development officer to join its small and dedicated team in a full time position working from its head office at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon.

WACA OFFERS PROJECT OFFICER POSITION

The WACA is seeking a Project Officer – Aboriginal Cricket to focus on developing the sustainable growth of Aboriginal cricket in Western Australia through increased connection, engagement and participation.

This will be achieved by developing and delivering targeted Aboriginal cricket programs and initiatives, working with clubs and members of the community to promote diversity and inclusion practices, and providing input into the WA Aboriginal Cricket Advisory Committee.

RECFISHERS TO HAVE SAY ON ARTIFICIAL REEF

Fisheries Minister Dave Kelly is inviting recfishers and community members in Perth's growing northern suburbs to take part in public consultation that will help determine where a new artificial reef will be situated.

Consultation on the Northern Artificial Reef Project, which will deliver the seventh purpose-built artificial reef in WA, will commence on August 1, 2018.

The Australian Sports Commission will be now known as Sport Australia, with a stated vision to build the world’s most active sporting nation, known for its integrity, sporting success and world leading sports industry.

Sport Australia’s expanded vision will also include an enhanced role to increase physical activity more broadly.

ASF HAS NEW CHARITABLE FUND

The Australian Sports Foundation has established a new charitable fund which has been awarded Deductible Gift Recipient status by the Federal Government, allowing sport to benefit for the first time from more than $550m distributed annually by Public and Private Ancillary Funds.

Ancillary Funds currently hold over $4.4 billion in philanthropic assets and are required to distribute a minimum of 5 per cent of assets held every year.

SPORT AUSTRALIA LEADS GLOBAL PROBE ON KIDS PHYSICAL HEALTH

Sport Australia has come on board as principal partner for the Movement to Move Event in Adelaide in November, a major international event that will examine the physical activity levels and health of children and adolescents around the world.

The Movement to Move Event presented by Active Healthy Kids Australia, the University of South Australia and the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance, will present the Physical Activity Report Cards for children and youth from 49 countries.

BLEDISLOE TICKETS ON SALE OCTOBER 26

One of the biggest events in world sport, the Bledisloe Cup, will be played at the Optus Stadium to an expected sell-out crowd on August 10, 2019.

General public tickets to the highly anticipated event will go on sale on October 26 and are expected to be snapped up for what will be the only time the Wallabies and All Blacks play each other on Australian soil in 2019
