Next Meeting: Monday, February 6, 2017

Our next meeting will take place on the 6th of February, the first Monday of the month. Our demonstrator will be TWG member Wyatt Walkem, whose studio is near Georgetown, Ontario.

In this demonstration, we will see Wyatt's approach to turning green, natural edge bowls. Among other things, he will talk about:
  • Sourcing good green wood for turning
  • Appropriate tools for bowl turning and the many different ways they can be used, focusing on riding the bevel and using one's body in turning
  • Sharpening the bowl gouge
  • Various ways for mounting the work piece on the lathe
Wyatt says: "I'll be turning a side-grain bowl and an end-grain, natural-edge bowl showing the ins and outs of how to tackle these two very different bowls. I'll be talking about form, line, and design, and how to push simple natural edge bowls to a higher level of turning through design."
