Next Meeting: Monday, April 3, 2017

Our next meeting will take place on the first Monday of April. Our demonstrator will be Jim Lorriman from Mansfield, Ontario.

Jim was born in Toronto, but 20 years ago he moved to his current home (where he has his studio) in the hills of Mulmur, near Mansfield, which is northeast of Shelburne in Dufferin County. He credits his love of woodturning to both his father and grandfather, who worked wood in their spare time. Like them, he started off in furniture and wooden boat building but left those traditional pursuits to become a full-time wood turner. A book by Dale Nish that provided instructions on how to turn a board into a bowl was a source of inspiration for Jim. What he is best known for now are his creations using old or found wood. Jim loves to share the techniques and methods he uses in his work. Don't miss this chance to see him in action up close.

To make your library browsing easier at the meetings, we have archived items that are not as popular so that you can concentrate on items of direct interest to your turning. We will retain the less active items in the library and you may request them if you are interested. Just ask one of the librarians, Neil or Joe, if you wish to access one of these. Archived items are listed in the Library Catalogue on the website.

Reminder
From time to time, people contact the Guild in search of someone who is interested in taking on a custom woodturning commission or commercial work involving woodturning. Guild Secretary Catherine Churchill Frank is compiling a list of members that she can contact when work requests come in. If you're interested in being contacted, please speak to Catherine at an upcoming meeting or send her an email at info@torontowoodturnersguild.com
Show & Tell Table

Sharing knowledge, ideas and techniques is what we're all about. Whether you are showing off something that turned out well or need assistance on how to solve a problem, we want to see it.

Anyone who brings a piece for the Show & Tell table will receive two free tickets for the wood raffle at the end of the meeting.
Couldn't attend the last meeting?
If you couldn't attend the presentation by Ruby Cler on March 6, go to the Gallery and Past Events page to see photos of the evening.
