WHAT'S THE FAIR TAX AMENDMENT?

When you vote this fall. you have the opportunity to vote on the Illinois Fair Tax Amendment.  Maybe you've seen recent TV ads and wonder if they are accurate.  What is the Fair Tax Amendment?  How will it affect you?  Join us via ZOOM on Thursday, October 1 at 7PM for a presentation by Ralph Martire from the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability.
 
If you have never used ZOOM, it's easy. Just click on this URL to join the meeting from your computer, tablet or phone. When prompted, download the Zoom installation, which is free. Then click on Open Zoom Meetings to go to the meeting. Enter this passcode to join: 807907

During the presentation, if you have questions you can raise them by clicking on Chat and a window will appear for you to type your message.

WEST RIDGE ARTISTS VIDEO PROJECT

How did you enjoy the first West Ridge Artist Spotlight Video which was shared in the last newsletter? If it's still on your to-do list, reserve five minutes to watch it! The Artists group has launched a Go Fund Me page to raise funds to produce more videos showcasing WRA artists, their creative process and their works.  Please consider donating to support local artists in your community.  This project will not only help local artists, it will also promote and highlight West Ridge and all of its offerings!

COVID CREATIONS CALL

Calling all West Ridge residents – show us what you’ve created! Be featured in the WRA Covid Creations Online Gallery!
 

We’ve all been home alot more than usual - through the lock down, and even now with many places still closed and events moved from in-person to virtual. WRCO wants to showcase what you and/or your children have created during this historic time. We welcome all creations (visual, performing, literary) from West Ridge residents, regardless of your experience or training - from amateurs to professionals to those who are just exploring something new!

 

Submission is simple - email us one of the following:
• a photo of your visual work (painting, sculpture, drawing, photograph, etc.
• written piece (poem, short story, etc.)
• for music and videos: submit your audio or video file via a file sharing service like Dropbox, Google Drive, Icloud, etc. Do not attach file to your submission. Include the URL link to your file instead.



You can include a short description of your work with your name, or remain anonymous, if preferred. 

 

Work will be featured in the Covid Creations Online Gallery on the West Ridge Artists website and in WRA/WRCO social media posts.
Participants are required to sign and submit a permission form which allows us to publicly display your work. Parents and guardians - if you are submitting a piece created by your child, you are required to submit the parental consent form. You retain all rights to your work.
Deadline is October 15, 2020.

BALLOONS OVER BABYLON

 
Please join Silk Road Rising, the Honorary Consulate of Sweden in Chicago, the Middle Eastern Immigrant and Refugee Alliance (MIRA), and the Swedish American Museum, on Saturday, September 19 at 1:00 pm, for a virtual screening of the acclaimed 2019 documentary film Balloons over Babylon. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Swedish filmmaker Folke Rydén and MIRA's Community Engagement Manager, Ekram Hanna, moderated by Silk Road Rising’s Co-Executive Artistic Director Jamil Khoury.

Everyone told him it was impossible. Balloons over Babylon (one hour and ten minutes) is the incredible story of one Iraqi man’s quest to fight fear and promote hope by flying hot air balloons over his war-torn country. Learn more about Balloons over Babylon here.

Reservations are free and can be made here. Only one reservation is needed per household. After you RSVP to this virtual event, you'll receive a link by email a few days before the event, complete with more details and a chance to watch the documentary early.

SAVE THE DATE

The West Ridge Chamber is sponsoring a recycling event in the Devon Bank parking lo, 6445 N Western, on Sunday, October 18 from 8:30-11:30.  They will accept electronics, paper and unusable clothing which will be shredded.  NOTE: CRT TV's, computer monitors, household appliances or lamps will not be accepted. Flat screen TV's and monitors will be accepted.
A SAMOSA EATING CONTEST, sponsored by the West Ridge Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Sunday, October 25! The main event will take place at Tiffin, 2536 W Devon and it will be live-streamed at several other Devon restaurants.  Watch for more information on this fun event.
