Dear Friends,

Thank you for supporting the successful release of my first single “You Know I Love Mangoes.” We have received rave reviews from listeners and fans and everyone told me how much they loved “Mangoes!” Now is the time to introduce you my second single “Time Enough for Love."

In contrast to “Mangoes,” it is a simple love song in Bossa Nova style without any flashy solos or complex arrangements but in an intimate duet setting with only vocal and guitar. It is sung in the purest and most honest language, presenting earnest desire in an unpretentious way.

Everyone has their own Language of Love and mine is “Time.” I am not the kind of girl who needs a guy to lavish me on expensive jewelry and gifts. I prefer someone who is willing to spend time with me, just to take a walk in the park or listen to me talking about how my day went. Ironically, in busy, modern cities like NYC, most men I had fallen in love with are highly career-driven and ambitious individuals who can’t seem to afford much time for love. Inspired by David’s beautiful lyrics, I wrote this song to remind everyone that there is “Time Enough for Love.

Speaking about being busy in modern urban life, lately, I have been occupied with making promotional videos for this new album.  I am also in the process of making a music video for this single “Time Enough for Love” with the guitarist David Rosenthal and my young filmmaker friend Anqi Wang. We have shot the indoor scenes at the recording studio where we recorded the song originally and will do the outdoor scenes when spring finally arrives. We are excited to present this music video with you soon.

Besides being a “filmmaker” this past month,  I am happy to announce that my classical composition “Karma” (for violin, piano, electronic guitar, bass clarinet/clarinet, and percussion) was selected to be premiered at the Juilliard Evening Division Composers Showcase on April 25th. I am also excited to share that I have been accepted into the Composition Program of EAMA - Summer Music Institute at La Schola Cantorum in Paris, France. EAMA has graciously awarded me with Lotfi Family Scholarship and I will be studying with composers Philip Lasser, David Conte, and Michel Merlet in the month of July in Paris. Though it is never easy to juggle the two hats of jazz vs classical, I am excited to devote my summer to further advance my compositional craft under this curriculum, building upon Nadia Boulanger’s vision and tradition.

Most importantly, we have finalized the date for the “Set for Love” release concert. It will be held at the Lincoln Center Bruno Walter Auditorium, inside of the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center. Please save the date of Saturday, June 1st at 7:30 pm. I will send more information about tickets soon or follow me on my Facebook Fanpage if you have not done so. Limited seating, so reserve your tickets early!

Time Enough for Love,

Mavis
