Best Hurricane Advice We've Seen

We've summarized some key points to remember but most of all, stay safe, help your neighbors and don't venture out too soon!

Remembering 9/11 And Each Other

On the surface, maybe the impending rain and expected hurricane don’t have much to do with the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but today, the air feels heavy. The molecules of rain hold as many memories as we do, of past storms, losses, and the ways we’ve come together, and where we haven’t yet.

Our StrongerNC team member Cristel Orrand shares her thoughts on coming together in the worst of times.

Federal Government Backs Off Subpoena Requiring Voting Records

Last week we saw an outrageous demand for millions of voting records, including personal information, from the Dept. of Justice in coordination with ICE and the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Thankfully, our NC State Board of Elections and Ethics stood up to this request and with the assistance of NC Attorney General Josh Stein's office pushed back and said this request would severely impact their efforts to prepare for the midterm elections, in addition to voicing concerns of the scope and purpose of the request. As a result of this feedback and intense media coverage and public outrage they agreed to postpone the request until January 2019 and have personal data redacted.

We have since learned that the NC DMV also received a subpoena for records relating to voter registration. Joshua Malcolm, the (NC State BOE) board’s vice chairman, said state officials stood ready to assist any appropriate inquiry into illegal activity. But the elections board would “not stand idly by and consent to an agency attempting to obtain records and documents that violate the principles of overreach by the federal government,” he said.
