Nourish Your Company Culture

Because “culture eats strategy for breakfast”

It’s been quoted so many times it’s become a cliche. That’s because it’s true.

The strength of your organization’s culture will be one of the factors that contributes most to its long-term success. How your people communicate, solve problems, deal with customers, and relate to one another plays a critical role in retention, motivation, customer satisfaction, and much more.

Culture is especially important to employees under the age of 35, currently one-third of employees, with numbers rising quickly. The most recent Deloitte survey of both Millennial and Gen Z employees found that this up-and-coming generation of leaders is far more interested in developing soft skills and working for an organization that contributes to the greater good than for a company only interested in increasing its profit margin.

Cultivating a healthy and thriving company culture has never been more important to the success of teams, organizations, and business objectives. Here are 3 tools you can use right away to make an impact.
Culture is not something you are—it’s something you do, says author Daniel Coyle. In his book, The Culture Code, Coyle takes us behind the scenes at some of world’s most successful (Pixar) and powerful (the US Navy’s Seal Team Six) organizations to reveal how they build trust, collaborate, and drive change. He also offers practical guidance on how to avoid common pitfalls and transform a flawed culture into a flourishing one.
Speaking of culture codes... HubSpot’s Culture Code slide deck started as an internal document, but after the growing CRM company made it public, it’s been viewed over one million times. We love the emphasis on transparency, trust, and ownership. Take a look and see what’s possible.
In her new book, Powerful: Building a Culture of Freedom and Responsibility, Patty McCord, former Chief Talent Officer at Netflix, shares how she transformed the company into a media powerhouse through radical honesty and challenging work, not bonuses and perks.
Building a healthy, compassionate, and agile organizational culture is essential to unlocking the true potential of your people. The key is to take action.
