One Race, one wind chase as the wind barely 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 with plenty of holes teasingly gave racers what they needed to do a reduced circuit to windward and return to the finish. Boats returning west from the Greenbury Pt mark had the choice of staying on starboard and sailing into a hole or switching to port and have the tide push them below the finish. Those who choose to sail into the hole and sail the tide won. One race was enough. The fleet hoped their way home to SSA. The delay to go out discouraged a number of potential racers but FJs and sailfish were determined and the loose breeze started filling for a while and sailor's hope springs eternal. FJs-3

Junior Program Updates:
The SSA Junior Sailing program was quiet last week as it was the only week that we have not had something going on since February! But we are back in full swing going into the fall season. Both Kellen and Travis will be off on Sundays and Mondays this Fall, but we will have high school sailing going on Tuesday-Friday and Opti practices on Saturday afternoons. This week at SSA, we have 2 high school sailing clinics. We have a fleet race clinic that ends today and a team race clinic that starts Thursday and ends on Friday! We are working very hard with our varsity sailors to get them prepared for a run at nationals. If you would like to come watch some practices feel free to watch from the end of the dock while we are on the water! We also had an awesome Opti practice this past weekend where the sailors worked specifically on starts and finding the breeze. We had some big jumps in skill and are looking forward to the next Opti practice (September 7th).
The SSA Board of Governors act as the Directors of our club, and there are nine members. The Nominating Committee is charged with selecting a slate for the board, to be presented at the annual meeting in early November. The Nominating Committee will be meeting throughout August and September, as the slate of nominees is due to be posted in the October eSSAy. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Governors, or if you would like to suggest eligible members for the slate, please contact any of the above members at your earliest opportunity.
