Over and Above Party

SSA held its first Over and Above Celebration last Saturday night. We wanted to do a special recognition of those members who did more for the Club than their obligation.

What does this mean?

Our Club was founded on "volunteers" although back then they were just members doing what needed to be done - Race Committee, building docks, filling bulkheads, building a clubhouse, whatever it took to have a place to call "home" when sailing. When you decided to join SSA it was a place to call home and with that membership it became your privilege to participate in all ways to serve your Club.

We are a small Club with a very limited staff, but a lot of resources and we keep our dues reasonable and affordable for the average sailor. We are able to do that through our volunteerism...through YOUR hard work!

Each of us has a set number of days that we are "obliged" to serve the Club. The racing and work schedules are based on the total number of hours
"obliged" by the membership.

The Over and Above group are those members who give more. More than they are obliged to serve... They work more hours on the docks so we can launch without incident. They work more on the Clubhouse and Grounds so that we can be proud of our "home". They work more hours on Race Committee so that we have good racing on the Weekends, for the Junior Program, for TESOD, and Thursdays.

This year we had 87 members who gave more than their obligation! You will recognize them this summer in their tech shirts on the course and on the grounds. Want a great shirt? Now you know how to get one!
