Commodore’s Cleanup: November 10, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

So you know how you like to get your home a little tidied up before company comes? That’s what SSA members are going to do the day before the Annual Meeting! Pitch in for just a few quick hours to get our clubhouse ready for the Closing Day Brunch and Annual Meeting. We’ll focus on a little light landscaping work, cleaning up some of the dings in our new paint job, getting the clubroom set up for the brunch, and a few other small but “darn that looks better now!” assorted items. Want to join the crew? Email Kim Couranz ( by Thursday, November 8, so she can be sure to have the right tools and supplies at the ready.

Reminder: Register for Closing Day Brunch, Annual Meeting!

November 11 Closing Day Brunch and Annual Meeting are highlights of the SSA calendar. Make sure to reserve your seat at the brunch—and help us plan to have enough handouts at the meeting—by signing up for both events via the SSA online calendar. For brunch, be sure to register by Thursday, November 8, to help Monica and the BBK@SSA team have enough food and beverages on hand!

Service Day Opportunities

We have two more Work Party opportunities on the calendar to help you fulfill your service to SSA. Join us:

> Sunday, November 4, for lots of general clean-up projects. This is perfect for the whole family and you can register on the Better Impact site. Contact Mike Beer with any questions.

> Thursday, November 15 @ 9:30am, for Historic Document sorting. Join us as we pull paperwork from the attic, the office and copy room and organize paperwork dating back from the founding to our club or just some old receipts that need to make their way out the door! It's a neat way to explore SSA history. Register on the Better Impact site. Contact Cathy in the office with any questions.

Junior Program Updates

Winter is coming, but the Broadneck team doesn’t seem to mind because they are on their way to New York for the MASSA Team Race Championship! The Broadneck team (pictured above) composed of Emma Snead, Morgan Carew, Josh Becker, Lucien Parker, Will Sizemore, and Alex Heim went to the Magothy on Saturday and were able to put themselves into the final 6 and go 4-2 to earn a spot at the championship. Key School, led by Charlie Anderson and Molly Roden made a strong push at the end of the day with 2 straight wins to put themselves into the final 6 but, had a lot of boat issues during the round of 6 not winning a race. This event was very competitive and we couldn’t be more proud of our teams for how they have done so far this season. Goodluck to the Broadneck team at SUNY next week! If you want to follow their races you can go to

Seeking Elves for December 8 Parade of Lights Celebration

We've only just turned the calendar to October, but we're already looking ahead to the December holidays! One of the highlights of the SSA year is enjoying the Eastport YC Parade of Lights from the SSA facilities. The bulk of the work that evening is done by our snack bar operators (beverages) and members who bring the fantastic food and we have a "chief elf" to oversee the evening. It's a super fun way to support the SSA family and a great way to get into the holiday spirit! If you'd like to volunteer to help out with the effort that evening, please contact Cathy in the office.
