Laser & Laser Radial Crab Claw Regatta

"We had a wonderful weekend with the best winds!"

The Oysters are here! The Oysters are here!
This Friday, September 28th
The SSA Oyster Project is ready to receive a new batch of baby oysters!

We need to pickup the oysters and new baskets this Friday. Chris will be at AYC at 4:30 with his truck to pickup 12 new baskets and 10 bags of oysters. This load should be at SSA by 5:00. Please join us at SSA to help with this effort Friday night for 2-3 hours.  It may be a little bit of a messy job but fun and for a worthy cause.

Please let Chris Ryan
(cryanwork@hotmail.com) know if you are able to help.

Junior Program Updates: The Junior Program had a very busy weekend with 2 high school regattas and Opti ACC’s.  The high school regatta on Saturday was filled with fun and a lot of great racing.  The weather was beautiful and the sailors were all smiles on the water.  This was the first weekend of racing for our Varsity teams and our teams struggled in the beginning of the day but were able to take away a lot from the first couple races and get some solid top 5 finishes in a few races.  Broadneck finished 7th, Archbishop Spalding finished 10th, Key School finished 13thand South Riiver finished 16th. Sunday, we hosted a team race, it was a light steady rain all day but the breeze was enough to get an entire 36 race round robin in.  Broadneck finished in 6thand Key finished 9th.  Our Opti group also had a fun weekend up in New Jersey for ACC’s.  We are a young group but we had some really good finishes in a huge fleet of boats. Ashton Perkins finished 108thoverall and Will Lindsley finished 144th  in RWB. Meanwhile, Flora Cole, Jake Beaver, and Robby Herzog all sailed the green fleet posting some great scores.  This regatta is very competitive and these young sailors are now full of confidence and ready for the next event.

SSA Appearance and junk removal

We are working to clean up our lovely club and will be removing items that have been gathering over time into junk piles.  There are many broken or apparently unused masts and spars mostly behind the storage shed we are planning to remove.  If you have any items that have been left behind, please come remove them and take them home if you still want to keep them.  We will be organizing a clean up effort and would like these items removed at the Oct 20 and Nov 3 work parties.  Any broken or bent spars will be removed after that.  Used tires should also not be left on the lot and will also be removed.

SSA provides some limited storage for members to store spare masts or spars.  All equipment should be clearly marked with the members name and should be stored neatly on provided storage racks along the 1st street fence.  Please make sure you have identified any equipment that is yours and work with Mike Higgins on storage.  Masts should have their spreaders removed to keep space use down and allow others to store and access their equipment as well.

Boats and trailers should also be clearly labeled with the members name on the front of the trailer or dolly.  Please clearly mark your name on this to help us better track what boats are stored on the lot.  Unidentified boats or trailers may be considered unpaid and causes additional work for our staff to track down and to remove unpaid items.  Please work with Mike or Cathy to ensure we can account for all stored boats properly.
