TESOD Race Committee Support Needed
While we have lots of fun on Tuesday nights sailing, we need a few people to make it happen! Please consider arriving at 5:30pm and helping out on Race Committee. It only takes about 4 people and we need you! And don't forget, after all that fun out on the water, you get to come back to a free drink!
You heard that right, FREE DRINK!
The Solings were on the water this weekend; it just doesn’t feel right to see them sail without Dr. Stuart Walker among the competitors. Stuart’s family are working to tidy up his estate, helping many of the items from his house find new homes—including many sailing trophies from the 1950s through the 2000s. While they are holding an online auction for many of the larger items/furniture (at CTAnnapolis.com; May 23-30), they’d like to invite the SSA family over for the “preview” event this Thursday, May 23, 4-7 p.m. at the Walker home "Destination", 1888 Luce Creek Drive, Annapolis 21401 (up gravel driveway, first house on right, please do not block traffic on lane). Stuart’s family invites you to bring home a piece of sailing history to remember him by.
Team SSA placed 3rd of 8 teams in the 2019 Annapolis Yacht Club 3-2-1 Chesapeake Regatta. They were bested by College of Charleston Yacht Club and Naval Academy Alumnae (with Coach Ian Burmann, also from SSA).
SSA’s team included: Geoff Becker, Trevor Perkins, Tim Herzog, Bell Carty, Ashley Love, and Dave Waiting.
Summer sailing season is approaching fast! Just 3 weeks until the Junior Summer Program is underway. We have a lot going on including building opti racks, fixing boats and part inventory. If you have any extra Opti or 420 parts that you would like to donate to the Junior Program it would be greatly appreciated! Also, if you would like to help us with our projects, get in touch with Travis at firstname.lastname@example.org! We have the end of season dinner and awards on Friday May 24th for the high school teams who had a very good season for a very young set of teams. We are really looking forward to the next few years of high school sailing! We still have room in the summer program, so if you have not signed up yet you still have a little bit of time. But make sure you do it sooner rather than later as we have a very minimal number of spots available. Lastly make sure that you are signed up for the Olivia Team Race!! Registration is open and it is all to a good cause supporting the Olivia Constants Foundation who do so many things for the community. It is an open event for all ages and you don’t need to have any experience in team racing!
Just two more weeks before the Leukemia Cup Regatta happens! SSA will be represented at the regatta, and Team SSA has put together a special project, which will help support the mission of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society of finding a cure for blood cancers. This year Team SSA will be raffling off a Treasure Chest of Hope. Included in the Treasure Chest are gift cards from 5 local area restaurants worth $250, $50 worth of scratch offs, and $50 worth of liquor. The price of the raffle tickets are $5 each or 6 for $20. The winner gets $350 worth of items with the chance to win big with one of the scratch offs! You know how it goes: "You've got to Play to Win!" To purchase raffle tickets contact Amy Harris or Lori Mayers, PH 410-279-3578, or look for Lori roaming around SSA with the Treasure Chest in hand. The drawing will be the day of the Leukemia Cup Regatta, 6/1/2019. It's not too late to register for the Leukemia Cup Regatta, and remember, all the events are open to the public.
The Standing Race Committee is looking for two more members to take on two responsibilities; TESOD and Thursday night racing. These members only need to be the communications people for these events. It will be a weekly communication effort with reminders (All canned) and suggestions and maybe a fun report or picture. Interested members should have an infectious and fun demeanor!
