The SSA Board of Governors act as the Directors of our club, and there are nine members. The Nominating Committee is charged with selecting a slate for the board, to be presented at the annual meeting in early November. The Nominating Committee will be meeting throughout August and September, as the slate of nominees is due to be posted in the October eSSAy. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Governors, or if you would like to suggest eligible members for the slate, please contact any of the above members at your earliest opportunity.

Space Limited: Sign Up Today for September 11 Weather Training!
SSA is hosting a session featuring a NOAA National Weather Service meteorologist as the instructor--it's the Skywarn program's basic class--September 11, 6-8 p.m. It's an opportunity to help our local National Weather Service office by groundtruthing observations--and a terrific way to learn more about the weather, including tropical systems, severe weather, and winter storms--that affect our sailing. The event will be open to all in the Annapolis area, and space is limited, so sign up today (it's FREE!) athttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/skywarn-basics-city-of-annapolis-tickets-65420074203. With any questions, contact Kim Couranz.
August 6, 2019 TESOD
With eyes and handheld weather programs tracking large clouds to the north lest they change their direction towards Annapolis ( which they didn't ), TESODERS ventured into a 6- 8 mph velocity breeze framed by mid 80 temperature and clinging humidity that was much more comfortable on the water than on the land. Rain delayed the Orioles and Yankees 1 hr 15 minutes but 5 trips round the mark paths for the single sailors remained dry and pleasant . An accommodating Southerly 170o to 185o spared us its usual right lunging trickery. Starts for the one sail laser fleet rolled every 12 - 17 minutes. Starts for the two sail fleet were less predictable as double sail boats dodged in and out of the races. A few boats tipped and spilled crew got to practice bailing skills but they were on their way before crash boats standing by were needed. Thanks to Signal crew Doug P and Harry T, Mark boat one with Andrew and Ann Cole in their own yacht and Mark Boat two, the red rib with Eric J and Tip.
Since the Board of Governors now require at least two boats and two persons per boat, volunteers for Race committee are not only appreciated but mandatory. One kind of creative compliance was experienced recently where Bruce E and John Z switched with each other, one sailing a few races while the other manned a RC boat then vice versa. Fun and safety at the same time.
You can sign up to help TESOD Race Committee and know if we can use your help! We've added a Volunteer Module to the website so you can let us know you're coming. We need 4 people to run race committee on Tuesdays and we can do it without you... https://www.severnsailing.org/content.aspx?page_id=2664&club_id=549086&actr=3
You'll also find volunteer sign up on every Tuesday's registration page on the website

Junior Program Updates:The Junior program only has 1 more week of classes left in the summer program for 2019. It has been a very fun and exciting summer so far. Our coaching staff has done some wonderful things this year and we would like to really thank them for everything that they do for the kids and the reputation of SSA. Our travel teams were complimented around the bay for their respect and skill level all season while our classes that stay at SSA have done an awesome job keeping the club as neat as they could (with some exceptions)! If you see any of our staff walking around the rest of this week or next week please be sure to thank them for everything they’ve done for the club and the kids. This weekend is the last regatta of the summer for our Travel Teams as they will be attending the annual Oxford regatta on Saturday and Sunday. You can follow scores on regatta network! Also, we would like to thank the families of the sailors for all the hard work they put into the program this year as well. We could not do it without you all! We will be transitioning into the Fall season where we will have high school sailing back at SSA as well as weekend Opti Practices. You can find all of that information on our website! Our parent meeting day for high school is going to be August 21st at 6:30pm if you are interested in learning more about high school sailing and how we operate those teams. Our Opti Practices will start almost immediately after the summer season starts. Our first Opti practice will be the Red,White, Blue teams on Saturday from 9am-1pm and Sundays for green fleet 9am-1pm.
