With the Parker 18 sulking at the dock on the IR (injured reserve) TESOD ventured optimistically forth in near 4 knots of breeze with steady Eddie and the Red Rib. The ebb tide over ruled the wind to orient the Signal boat backwards and pulled unwary starters OCS but Senior Venturi worked his magic and grudgingly allowed racers to make the windward mark. Then after the first race when one and two sail boats vied together the wind pulled a leftie from 150o to 105o 110o causing more chaos than anticipated to re-orient marks and flags, thankfully handled by the mark boat with all good speed. Three races for each fleet until it became a race to the SSA barn for Beer and tunes. 7 different kinds of racers made for a happy diversity: Lasers 9, FJ 3, Snipe 4, 420 - 1, Sun Fish- 4,Opti - 3 , RSAL - 1.
Signal Boat: Doug P and Harry T. Red Rib: Eric J and Dorian H.

Junior Program Updates:
We have had an awesome summer and it is hard to believe that this is the last week. ☹
Our race teams have had a busy week traveling to the final 2 regattas of the summer. Last Thursday, our Opti and 420 sailors were competing at the Miles River Yacht Club Junior Regatta. Congrats to our Opti sailors Jake Beaver who finished 2nd in white fleet and Lizzie Scales who finished 3rd in white fleet. Great job!
Our race teams finished the summer regatta schedule this past weekend at the Oxford Regatta with a strong showing. Robbie Meek finished 3rd in Laser Radials, Lizzie Scales got 2nd in white fleet, Jake Beaver 3rd in white fleet and Andrew Shingledecker 4th in green fleet. Way to go SSA Jr. sailors!
Come celebrate an awesome summer this Friday at 7:00 for the end of the season awards ceremony. Be sure to register on the SSA website!
Even though the summer program has come to an end, sailing for the SSA juniors is far from over. We are getting ready to kick off the high school sailing season for our teams from Broadneck, South River and Spalding high schools.
We have a very important high school sailing parent meeting on Wednesday August 21. We will also be hosting a pre-season high school sailing fleet racing and team racing clinic the week of August 27-30.
In addition to the containers of fuel stabilizers, impressive variety of brands and a bottle of head and tank conditioner that are left, we also have 1 stainless steel table / shelves, 5 grease guns, and there are still 5 more piling off cuts. Contact Cathy if you can use one!
Space Limited: Sign Up Today for September 11 Weather Training!
SSA is hosting a session featuring a NOAA National Weather Service meteorologist as the instructor--it's the Skywarn program's basic class--September 11, 6-8 p.m. It's an opportunity to help our local National Weather Service office by groundtruthing observations--and a terrific way to learn more about the weather, including tropical systems, severe weather, and winter storms--that affect our sailing. The event will be open to all in the Annapolis area, and space is limited, so sign up today (it's FREE!) athttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/skywarn-basics-city-of-annapolis-tickets-65420074203. With any questions, contact Kim Couranz.
As of August, the 2019 Nominating Committee has been appointed with the following members:
The SSA Board of Governors act as the Directors of our club, and there are nine members. The Nominating Committee is charged with selecting a slate for the board, to be presented at the annual meeting in early November. The Nominating Committee will be meeting throughout August and September, as the slate of nominees is due to be posted in the October eSSAy. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Governors, or if you would like to suggest eligible members for the slate, please contact any of the above members at your earliest opportunity.
