Southie Autonomy is transforming robotic automation by allowing robots to be told what to do, not how, through a patent-pending AI/AR platform that enables a novel and natural interaction paradigm between humans and robots.  They are looking for a mechanical contractor immediately and a full-time 3D perception and robotics software generalists in the near future. Contact if interested.

Open Robotics, the organization behind the robot operating system (ROS), announced a Technical Steering Committee (TSC) to set the technical direction for ROS 2.  The committee will determine the ROS 2 roadmap, developing core tools and libraries and establishing working groups to focus on important topics. Open Robotics is still looking for others to join the TSC. If you’re interested in helping steer the development of ROS 2, you can either contact Open Robotics via its Discourse website or by sending an email to

MatLab STEM Challenge:  High school students learn to code in MATLAB and are then tasked to create their own fitness tracker. Students begin with an online tutorial on MATLAB which should start and be completed during Massachusetts STEM Week (October 22-26) as part of an after-school club or school time activity.  More information on this MathWorks opportunity here.

Techstars is the world-wide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed. Every year in Boston, Techstars selects 10 companies to work with during their 3-month accelerator program. Techstars acts as a cofounder to its teams, investing capital and building a custom environment around each team to advance the core needs of the company. Learn more about the Techstars Boston program and what the company stands for. The Application deadline for Boston is October 14th.

The Somerville Urban Lab is a unique program that invites companies and academic institutions to pilot their products, projects, and prototypes on City of Somerville property, in City departments, and with willing private sector partners with City coordination and guidance. If you are looking to test new ideas or products in a city environment,  they are accepting proposals until November 12th.  For more information go to

October 9th-11th, International Robot Safety Conference in Detroit MI. This RIA conference will offer conference sessions and workshops that examine key issues in robot safety and provide an in-depth overview of current industry standards.

October 24th, 9:00 a.m. - noon.  The City of Somerville, Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development is hosting a “Hardware Startups and the Partners that Support their Growth” event at IndusPad in Lawrence Geo Orbital, a startup from Somerville, manufactures in Peabody (were also on SharkTank) will provide insight around scaling a hardware startup in MA.  This will be followed by a round table discussion around supply chain, PCBs (going from hobby board to custom boards), DFM and funding.
