Hey <<First Name>>,

Thanks for tuning in! It’s been an eventful month and here’s what we’ve been working on:

Hot Topics
ShelterJH members share relevant articles with one another through our member group. I can’t wait until we can all get together in person and share ideas (in August at our Story Slam—see below!). Until then, here are what our conversations have been about this month:

Story Slam: call for stories
Save the date for a ShelterJH & ActNow JH story slam: August 17! Now, we need to find storytellers. Do you have a funny/inspiring/challenging story about your housing experience in Jackson? A story about the power of collective organizing? Reach out to us with your ideas!

Fundraising Campaign
Thank you to all of our generous members who donated again and to our new members who joined during this tripling campaign in June! A huge thanks to our three anonymous donors who each matched our donations totaling over $10,000. This is a very exciting time for our organization and is a huge push towards the sustainability of our work. THANK YOU!

Two years ago, our community (and these ShelterJH members!) worked tirelessly to preserve the Genevieve block. Fast forward, and now businesses on that block are reducing hours because there still aren't enough homes for locals to call home.

Staffing Shortages
There has been a flurry of articles this month about staffing shortages in the valley and statewide due to a lack of homes that local workers can afford. Check out this one from KHOL, this one in the News & Guide, and one from Wyoming Public Radio. The Chamber of Commerce also hosted a Business Over Breakfast presentation about the lack of employees. It’s time for us to work with the business community to address our housing emergency.

Northern South Park
We wrote a letter to our Town Councilors and County Commissioners about our vision for Northern South Park. We believe that NSP presents an opportunity to change course, but it won’t be easy. Changing course means that most of the homes in this new neighborhood will need to be sold or rented at prices that people earning a living from the local economy can afford. Check it out here.

We are looking for new Policy Team members!

Join the ShelterJH Policy Team!
The ShelterJH Policy Team is a subset of members who discuss policy priorities and set the policy objectives for the organization. We want to include the diverse viewpoints of our members in the goal setting that we do for ShelterJH. This month, we discussed the possible avenues to establishing a real estate transfer tax. Interested in joining? We meet on the fourth Wednesday of every month at noon. Email info@shelterjh.org for more details.

Join Us!
If you’re not already a member, please join our movement. We suggest a donation of $20 per year; however, we want our membership to be as accessible as possible, so please pay what you can. Members receive access to special meetings, vote on the Board of Directors, and help set the vision and trajectory for the organization. If you are already a member, please invite your friends and neighbors to join as well!

As always, I am here to answer any questions. Thanks for your steadfast support of ShelterJH!

Best,
Clare Stumpf
