Happy 110th Birthday Hannah Frank

Today 23rd August 2018 marks what would have been the 110th birthday of Glasgow artist Hannah Frank.  To mark this, ten years on from the exhibition which opened on her 100th birthday in August 2008 at Glasgow University Chapel, a new exhibition will open this October to showcase her life and work.

When and where?

This new exhibition will also take place at  Glasgow University Chapel. It opens on Monday 15 October.  It will be launched with a reception on Sunday 14 October from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, with a kosher buffet provided by the Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC).   All are welcome - save the date!  The exhibition runs till Wednesday 6 February 2019.
A programme of talks, events and workshops will run throughout the exhibition.  There will also be an opportunity to see the extensive collection of Hannah Frank’s scrapbooks, papers, diaries and letters at the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre at Garnethill Synagogue in Glasgow City Centre.
Dates will be on the Hannah Frank website from early October.

Tours and activities for groups!

With the support of SCoJeC and Glasgow University Internship Hub, a team of knowledgeable Glasgow University student volunteers will run tours and tailored activities for groups during the exhibition.  The student volunteers – Lilith, Lisa, Sylvie, Geanina, Jess, and Erin – have a strong affinity with Hannah Frank, who also studied at Glasgow University as well as at Glasgow School of Art. The team can also travel around Scotland to run activity sessions for schools and groups.

I'll be handing this newsletter over to the student volunteers to design and write during the next few months!  So watch this space for exciting ideas including new social media platforms, rapping, videos and all kinds of things.  In the meantime please follow us on facebook and twitter to see what they're up to!

Don't forget our web shop where you can buy signed prints and other Hannah Frank images and books. We're maintaining our special offer of two signed prints for the price of one this year. The more prints you buy, the more we can do!   Part of the income from prints goes to support the costs of maintaining Hannah Frank's memory through exhibitions, the website, etc; and part goes to the three charities we're supporting this year - the Glasgow School of Art,  the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre, and Creative Access .  So please think about giving Hannah Frank prints and books as presents, or buy a couple for yourself and help us keep her name alive!
