Welcome to our April Newsletter

Hello everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the recent
beautiful weather, long may it last!

There is a lot going on at Portmore at the moment and we will be sharing our exciting plans with you in the coming months…watch this space!
In the meantime, we are thrilled to welcome a new team member into our growing family this month. Sabiha will begin her career as Trainee Dental Nurse at Portmore and will assist the Hygiene & Therapy Spa to provide exceptional standards of care for all patients. Sabiha has 2 years previous nursing experience and will be with us full time whilst studying for her National Certificate/NVQ in Dental Nursing.

We are rolling over our ‘Smile Design’ offer this month, so if you haven’t contacted us yet for your free design consultation, please do!
We are able to show predicted results using our digital design software which means you can see how the smile of your dreams will look!

For those tech savvy patients who carry smart phones and use social media, have you ‘liked’ the Portmore Facebook Page yet? If not, please do so and leave a review if you have time.

Dental Therapy @ Portmore just got better!

Dvija and Lois can provide new or replacement fillings alongside their professional hygiene services.  These highly skilled ladies have a real passion as well as a special interest in composite (white) fillings and have completed extensive hands-on training in this area.  Furthermore, the mentoring programme delivered here at Portmore, means they continue to stay abreast of the very latest techniques.

Our senior clinicians, Eben and John will be referring patients requiring tooth-coloured fillings to Dvija and Lois.
The key benefit to all patients with this change is reduced waiting times as:
1) Patients receive treatment from our skilled and highly trained Therapy clinicians in less time.
2) Eben and John can see patients requiring complex dentistry, such as Smile Design or Orthodontic treatment within 10 days.

If you have any questions, please contact Nikki (your practice manager) who will be happy to help.
Spotlight on…
...Smile Design. Not everyone is lucky enough to be born with a perfect smile. At Portmore, we see many patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth and who ask us to help them to create their dream smile.
Following years of complex training our talented clinicians are able to create a brand new, gorgeous, natural smile for patients in as little as 3 weeks! However, the key to ensuring a perfect outcome is planning and assessment of the patient prior to the first appointment.
Your initial consultation will be extensive and thorough, we want to find out all about you from how you feel about your current smile to your occupation. Firstly, we will talk to you about what it is you want to achieve, and what YOU think makes a beautiful smile. After all everyone is different, some patients choose to have a very white ‘Hollywood’ type smile with perfectly even, straight teeth; other patients prefer a more subtle approach. The key at this point is being very clear on your expectations and your desired result. We will ask you about your occupation, (we’re not being nosy, honest!) as its important for us to understand what kind of life you lead in relation to how you will maintain your smile. For example, we probably wouldn’t place fixed braces on a singer, trumpet player, keen diver or amateur boxer, as it may be too intrusive. When we assess patients for a new smile, we also examine their facial form and features, including skin colour, profile and smile/gum lines, we may take clinical photographs for planning purposes and we always send these photos to the lab technicians who construct the final teeth so they have a clear picture of ‘the person’ at the other end.

New smiles are not created with a ‘one size fits all’ approach, the technicians can spend up to 20 hours fine tuning shape and colour of porcelain veneers, it is the very smallest, most subtle differences in colour shading and layering that can make your smile completely authentic and truly unique. Of course, Smile Design is not just about appearance and aesthetics. It is vital that functionality stands the test of time, we would hope that with correct maintenance your new smile will last a minimum of 10-15 years. To assess function, we construct plaster models of your teeth so that we can carefully examine your occlusion (‘bite’), which means that we study how your teeth bite together and move/meet across each other – this is especially important for patients who suffer from extreme ‘wear’.

Finally, the patient will be fitted with the most beautiful new smile resulting in what can be for some people, very life changing experiences (new jobs, new relationships, new found confidence). Following this, we hand you over to our Hygiene Spa where you will be shown how to maintain your smile at home.

If you are unhappy with your smile and would like a free, no obligation consultation, please give us a call on 01932 855011.
