ROLE DESCRIPTION: Volunteer Liaison Officer
Responsible to: Odette Battarel (Management of People)
Weekly Hours: 28 hours (4days)
Annual Salary: £23,000 – £25,000 Inc plus 5% pension contribution
Main Location: On site and Outreach Role

Background & Context:  
Croydon Vision (CV) is focused on transforming lives, the journey to independence. Over the past few years, we have worked together to establish our values and steer change in a direction that promotes a growth mindset. We continue to strive towards reaching our Strategic Plan.

The Volunteer Liaison Officer’s main role is to coordinate and deliver Croydon Vision’s Volunteering Program, supporting and growing our Volunteers both as individuals and as a cohesive group. The post holder will uphold Croydon Vision’s values and mission, co-producing on a holistic level with Volunteers, Members, Staff and Partners. Thereby promoting accessibility, equality, and professional development within the three volunteering categories:
1- Route to Employment, 2 - Classic Volunteering & 3 – General Skill Up.


  • To promote best practice in volunteering by recruiting and retaining a wide range of Volunteers, offering a variety of flexible opportunities.
  • Driving marketing and communications, including celebrating volunteering on a local and national level, driving special initiatives during Volunteers and Trustees Week.
  • To develop volunteering opportunities with local organisations.
  • Strengthen our vision of a movement to empower volunteers, creating a pathway of personal growth and development.
  • Liaise and work together with other Officers, translating members into volunteering that leads to employment.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Volunteering Services
  • Responsible for all volunteers, recruitment, and administrative functions
  • Generate volunteer opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organisation
  • Promoting flexible models of volunteering to both organisations and individuals, all underpinned by equality, diversity, inclusion, and best practice.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of issues affecting volunteers, local community organisations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
  • Keeping up to date with developments, legislation and policies linked to volunteering
  • Promoting volunteering in Croydon as an activity that offers new skills and personal development, builds self-confidence and combats isolation
  • Publishing a monthly e-mail bulletin to Volunteers and sharing any relevant updates within the organisation including weekly Business Performance reports.
  • Providing impact reports, social value figures and data insights monitoring reports for funders as well as case studies, personal narratives throughout the year relating to project outcomes and to leverage future growth.
  • Providing impactful content about volunteers for the quarterly newsletter and supporting the distribution of the newsletter
  • To oversee the production and distribution of the weekly Talking News.
  • To provide regular content for social media platforms.
  • Engaging and co-producing with volunteers by organizing quarterly meetings, recording and sharing feedback with actioning key points, and building CV’s Knowledge Libraries
  • Developing creative ideas/ occasions to recognise volunteers e.g., volunteers/ trustee’s week
 Community Partnerships
  • Working and collaborating with local schools and colleges, businesses, local voluntary organisation, creating partnerships and sharing knowledge.
  • Supporting voluntary, public and private sector agencies to identify and develop roles and opportunities for volunteers
  • Organising and overseeing involvement in community events, keeping a record of events attended, impact and added value.
  • Seeking out and attending local networks, forums and meetings to increase knowledge of the voluntary sector, engaging and learning with other organisations
 Culture Convergence
  • Everything is laser focused to support the vision, transforming lives.
  • Identify learning and development needs of volunteers.
  • Creating peer support session for goal setting, monitoring individual development.
  • Produce tailored Personal Development Plans for annual appraisals.
  • Participate proactively with external service providers to understand the barriers for people with sight loss and then ACT (apply, change, teach).
  • A growing person adds greater value, therefore, being part of CV’s book club; learning and sharing is essential.
  • To exemplify our culture of putting people first, creating a vibrant community and empowering people on their journey through technology.
  • A hands-on approach as everyone actively participates in driving the values of CV.

Gateway to Wellbeing is LLF’s brand new accredited starter course into understanding the basics of wellbeing. This course covers a range of wellbeing related topics such as healthy living and how to deal with stressful problems!
You will finish this course with a greater understanding of your own personal and social development, which is vital for good wellbeing. This course is also to be repeated monthly, should you wish to share it with others as well as various other routes for progression. This course will be taught online.

What will you learn?

  • Understand how to identify areas for self-development.
  • How to recognise a straightforward problem and how to tackle it head-on.
  • Understand what is needed to create a healthy lifestyle, and what activities can contribute to making improvements.
  • How effective interpersonal communication skills can improve certain situations and overcome barriers.
