Island Editor: October 2019

In this bulletin:

A Message from your Executive

Welcome to a new year with your editing association, PEAVI.  As your new Chair, I wanted to introduce myself and the members of the incoming Executive. We are all volunteers and believers in the value of a well-placed comma.

Chair — Susan Grant
Secretary — Martin Glavin
Treasurer — Dave Henry
Membership — Esther Hart
Professional Development — Lenore Hietkamp
Communications / Island Editor — Colin Grainger
Website — Paula Gaube
Members-at-Large / Advisors — Lynne Graham, Sally Jennings, Rachel Peterson

We would like to establish a new position — Social Convener — to manage our three social events each year: the Christmas Party, the March Pub Night, and the June Summer Get-together. The workload is minimal as there is a well-established format for each and plenty of assistance available. Please consider joining us in this role. You can contact me at susan@peninsulaeditorial.com or (250) 857-3429.

I would also like to say a heartfelt thank-you to those PEAVI members retiring from the Executive this year. Their service has been greatly appreciated: Johanna Kendall, Paula Marchese, and Moira Dann.

Stay tuned to the Island Editor and your email for news and invitations to participate in the great activities being planned for the coming year. And please don’t hesitate to send in your suggestions for events you’d like to see and improvements to the PEAVI resources we provide, as well as your thoughts about how to serve you better.

Sincerely,
Susan Grant

Feedback Requests
At the last executive meeting, we decided that the organization needs some sprucing up in some respects, and we're looking to our members to provide some feedback. We have three items this newsletter:
  • An upcoming members survey
  • Website changes
  • Social media usage

Upcoming Survey:

Do you ever wonder about your fellow PEAVI members?

Well, so do we, and so we are going to be running a short “Stats PEAVI” survey to get a better handle on who PEAVI members are. When you see the Survey Monkey email later this month, please take a few minutes to complete the short survey. We promise it will be quick and painless.

We’ll be sharing the results with you down the road and using the information to help us better understand and serve our membership.

Website Suggestions:

We are planning an update to the PEAVI website, both functionally and visually, in early 2020. If there is one website function you feel is a must have — for example, the ability to create and update your own profile — what would it be? Please send your suggestions to info@peavi.ca by November 8, 2019. We look forward to hearing from you!

Social Media:

It could be said that we aren't exactly using our social media platforms to the maximum benefit. What content would you like to see on Facebook or Twitter? Events? Editing tips? General announcements? communications@peavi.ca, and let us know!

Lenore's Links

Thanks, Lenore Hietkamp, for these interesting and useful links!

Welcome new members

Let's give a warm welcome to our newest members! Reminder to those of you who still need to renew your membership, you can do so via the website at peavi.ca

Share your news

Do you have news you would like to share an interesting project, perhaps, or a new job? Has a book you edited recently been published? We would love to hear your editing news.

Ideas? Content? Feedback?

Do you have content, ideas, or feedback to share, an idea for a monthly meeting topic or a suggestion for a particular speaker? We're all ears!

Please contact Colin Grainger at communications@peavi.ca.
Island Editor is coordinated and compiled by Colin Grainger. This issue was copy-edited by PEAVI's Executive Team. PEAVI members provide the content.
