The Resilient Class of 2022

Our 2021-2022 school year came to a close with our senior class receiving nearly $4 million in scholarships. Our goal at CMSD is to ensure each student receives the skills necessary to be college, career, or enlistment ready. This year’s class faced numerous obstacles during a tumultuous time in public education. CMSD is proud of each Falcon. Class of 2022, your Falcon family is rooting for you, praising your accomplishments, and we’re all excited to watch you soar.

Earlier this year, CMSD adopted a block in East Columbus. Our goal was to entrench ourselves in the community and understand what our citizens needed and how we could help. The initiative started with one block and we have since recruited area organizations to adopt various blocks in our community. We kicked off the summer months with an end-of-the-year block party and plan to collect can goods, stock food pantries, and work on a Little Library to increase childhood literacy. Whatever we can do, we will do.

Summer is here!

Even though our academic year has ended, the students at CMSD are already preparing for the 2022-2023 school year.

We have students participating in our SMART Academy to improve their skills in Science, Mathematics, Art, Reading and Technology. Students are also engaged in our Fun Friday this month, where they participate in hands-on activities, such as animal science, physical education, cooking and more.

Check out just a glimpse of our summer outreach programs to keep our students engaged until our new school year.

Owl Academy

Our Owl Academy is in full swing! CMSD is thankful for our continued partnership with Mississippi University for Women as they help prepare our Columbus High students for college life. MUW is hosting our academic program where our students are fully immersed in the college experience. They are doing ACT prep work, touring the university, learning about financial aid, boundaries, money and time management, healthy lifestyles, and more. Our students have met with admissions counselors and have learned the process of preparing and applying for higher education.

Thank you, MUW and President Nora Miller for welcoming our students with open arms. We value our partnership and always enjoy our collaborative efforts to lift our students up. Thank you to CHS Principal Craig Chapman and Assistant Principal Monte Johnson for working with our students each day and helping them with college readiness. At CMSD, we will continue to provide students the skills necessary to be college, workforce, or enlistment ready by building bridges among students, parents, community members, and all district employees. #TogetherWeFly #WeAreColumbus #FalconStrong

Free Mini Falcons Athletic Camp

We still have slots available for our week-long Falcons Athletic Camp! Our program is open to students in Kindergarten through Sixth-Grade. We will have our Falcon coaches teaching students the fundamentals, drills, and mini games with baseball, softball, and volleyball. CMSD will pick up students from Propst Park, provide breakfast, lunch, and transportation back to Propst Park. If your child is interested, please head to Columbus High School for permission slips and sign-up sheets. You have until June 23 to secure your child’s spot! This is a great opportunity for our students to stay active this summer and build relationships with our CMSD staff.
