Wondering What is Happening with the RMMBC?
We've had a number of people ask what is happening with the Railway Modellers Meet of British Columbia (RMMBC). There is a lot happening behind the scenes so we thought we would give everyone an update.
To date Simon Fraser University (SFU) has not given the RMMBC Committee a yes/no answer as to whether their facilities will be available for rental by outside groups like the RMMBC. They have set aside the space we used in previous years for us until such time that they make a decision.
We are hopeful that they will allow the use of their facilities, and as such we are continuing to work on the in-person portion of the Meet. We are optimistic that we will be able to move forward with the first in person meet in three years.
All the favourite activities from previous meets are being worked on: clinic presentations, operating sessions, layout tours, displays and "Meet the Modeller" are all part of the in-person meet this year. We'll have much more on these Meet favourites in the months ahead.
Given the popularity of the Virtual RMMBC programs of the past two meets we are also working to have an Online Prologue or "First Section" to the meet. This part of the meet will be open to everyone who registers for the online part of the meet. We are working to have the online programming in the weeks prior to the in person meet at SFU.
We'll be letting everyone know more about both the on line prologue and the in person RMMBC in the weeks ahead. We're keeping a close eye (as is everyone) on the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation. The Committee is optimistic about this years RMMBC. We are committed to organizing a safe in-person meet this year, and we are working on contingency plans as well, depending on how things develop over the next few months. We'll see you at the Meet!
