National Spotlight Achieved for Triangle Rowing Club with Women’s Pair taking Bronze at the 2019 Youth National Championships
RALEIGH, N.C., June 14, 2019 – It was a memorable weekend for Triangle Rowing Club (TRC) at the 2019 Youth National Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida on June 5th-9th.. The weather was overcast and humid, however that did not stop Brooke Benestad and Sophia VonDauber of the TRC Women’s Pair from taking 3rd place in the Nation! This Women’s Pair is the first to ever win a medal at Nationals from the state of North Carolina. Sophia VonDauber is a rising senior at Apex Friendship High School in Apex, NC, and Brooke Benestad is a 2019 graduate of Cary High School in Cary, NC. In the Fall, Brooke will join the Ohio State Women’s Rowing team, a nationally ranked Division I powerhouse.
Triangle Rowing Club also made national history by having 3 boats qualify and compete at the 2019 Youth National Championships. It is an achievement for any club to send one boat to Nationals, and phenomenal to have 3 boats compete. The TRC Men’s Pair and Women’s 8 both made it to the D finals. The Women’s 8 was the first youth 8 to ever to go to Nationals from the state of North Carolina. The TRC athletes will continue to train hard this summer in preparation for a stellar Fall season.
This summer TRC has Learn To Row Camps for rising 7th-12th graders available June 17-21, June 24-28, July 8-12, July 22-26 and August 5-9. No experience necessary. For more information, please visit http://www.trianglerowing.org/.
