The Make It York business team will be moving to
City of York Council’s Economic Growth team on 
1 September 2021, in a move to strengthen the delivery of business support, economic development and inward investment activity across York. Read the team profiles to find out who can help you best with your business support needs, offer advice and answer questions. 
From Monday 19 July, City of York Council has launched a new campaign to encourage residents and visitors to ‘protect, respect and be kind’ as everyone adjusts following the lifting of national restrictions - find out more. Businesses in York can now download the new ‘Protect, respect and be kind’ business toolkit to support the campaign. The government is providing help for people experiencing slow broadband speeds in rural areas. As part of the UK Gigabit Broadband Voucher scheme, grants of up to £1,500 for households and up to £3,500 for businesses, are available for some of the hardest to reach rural areas to support the cost of installing a new gigabit-capable connection. The opening of LNER’s First Class Lounge marked the completion of a £3.5 million investment inside the York railway station. The First Class Lounge, which has been designed to celebrate York’s rich heritage, will provide an even greater level of customer experience to visitors to the region, as well as to the many local customers who travel regularly with LNER for business and leisure.

As part of the Summer of Sport events programme, special open day will be taking place in the city centre on Sunday 8 August with a variety of sports clubs and community groups coming together to showcase the sport and leisure activities with a series of sporty challenges on the day for residents and visitors to take part in. The Rugby League World Cup 2021 has announced this week that the tournament will be postponed until 2022. Whilst the tournament won’t be going ahead as planned this year, Make It York are looking forward to working with the Rugby League, Visit York Members and partners across the city to celebrate the event in 2022. Visit York's new campaign with York Park & Ride targeting Yorkshire families to visit over the summer holidays and discover York's hidden gems launched with Capital FM Yorkshire on 19 July. Check out Adam and Jojo's day out in York. The activity will continue with a digital campaign including ITV hub video on demand, YouTube ads, Dv360 banners and booster socials.

York Food and Drink Festival will return to the city from 17 - 26 September 2021 with cooking demonstrations, Yorkshire food and drink stalls on Parliament street, walking food tours, workshops for schoolchildren and Junior Chef competitions on 20th and 27th of September.

The Joseph Rowntree Theatre has unveiled its new season of shows. With many performances lined up, there is a packed programme of over twenty live shows – big and small productions, dance, opera, musicals, concerts, and a Christmas pantomime. Tickets go on sale on 1 August for theatre Friends and 8 August for the public. Find out more
