Helping NYC Homeless -
A request from vocal student, Meghan Laurence, in her own words

"New York City is one of the most inspiring places on Earth. But whenever I visit, I find it difficult to appreciate its gifts because I am confronted by poverty on every street corner.

While I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York, I would like to use this as an opportunity to give back to this amazing city. My family and I have decided to put together little care packages for all of the people that need a little extra help. We were hoping that the Encore community could help us in this effort by donating little things such as hand warmers, gloves, hats, toothbrushes, socks, toothpaste, applesauce pouches, chewy granola bars, or beef jerky sticks.

Please look for the donation bin near the reception desk at the Franklin location starting Friday, January 13, 2017. We thank you for your support."
HARP ARRIVES AT ENCORE

We are thrilled to be able to offer lessons on the harp now! Our Harp Specialist, Lois Francello, teaches Thursday evenings in our Franklin location. If you have ever wanted to learn this incredibly beautiful instrument, this is the perfect opportunity.

Here in the office we have noted that, even if you do not know how to single a note on the harp, it is one of those instruments that sounds ethereal, regardless of your skill level. If you would like to learn more about harp, how to proceed and where to rent a harp, please call us at (508) 533-7700.

ENCORE STUDENTS TO PERFORM AT CARNEGIE HALL
We are thrilled to announce the following vocal students of Lisa Ostrow have been invited to perform at the illustrious venue of Carnegie Hall in New York City on Saturday, February 18!

Meghan Laurence, age 12 of Mendon, Prem Pendkar, age 12 of Franklin, and Timothy Reda, age 10 of Millis

These three students were invited based upon their exemplary performance on the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program (RCMDP) assessments during 2015-2016.  In order to be invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, students must have received the highest score in their level of study for the State of Massachusetts for the entire year, and that score must be higher than a score of 90%.  We are so excited and proud of them, and are now making preparations for the performance of a lifetime!
New Woodwind Class at Encore

Do you play a woodwind instrument - flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, or bassoon - and would like to become part of a wind ensemble class with opportunities for performances throughout the year? Would you like more experience playing in a small ensemble setting? We have just the class for you!

Our Woodwind Specialist, Lea Botta, will be starting up a small Wind Ensemble class! Time is yet to be determined, but we invite any who are interested to contact the front office. Leave your name and instrument you play so that we may form appropriate classes based upon instrumentation and ability.

Please come and join this new and exciting opportunity at Encore! Call (508) 533-7700 for more information!
Senior Brian Rea, a voice student of Lisa Ostrow, will be playing Cogsworth in Bishop Feehan's production of Beauty and the Beast going up on April 7, 8 and 9. Way to go, Brian!

Congratulations to Audria Hawkins, voice student of Caitlin Medlin, who is currently playing Munchkin Mayor in Stadium Theatre's production of The Wizard of Oz, and who was also chosen to play the role of Pepper in Stadium Theatre's upcoming March production of Annie Jr! WOW, Audria, nicely done!

Huge congratulations are in order for several students cast in Franklin High School's production of Once On This Island! High school senior, Kathleen Cadorette, who studies voice with Lisa Ostrow and piano with Patrick Dreier, secured the role of Mama Euralie. Alexa Katsaros, voice student of Heidi Baker, will play the Goddess of Love. And joining the ensemble are Nyna Pendkar (voice student of Lisa) and Catherine Middelmann (voice student of Caitlin Chase). We're so proud of you, ladies!!

Catherine Middelmann also joins the ensemble for The Mystery of Edwin Drood, put on by the Theatre Institute at the YMCA. Congratulations, Catherine!

Faculty Facts

A warm welcome to David Siegel, Encore's newest member! David has a Bachelor's of Music in violin performance from the Manhattan School of Music. He has performed and traveled for a variety of organizations, including the Boston Ballet, the Wang Theatre, and the Phantom of the Opera National Tour. He is also a luthier, capable of making and repairing violins. David teaches violin and viola on Wednesdays at 3 Bent Street in Franklin.

We're hiring! As Encore continues to grow, we are seeking skilled instructors for private lessons in both our Franklin and Millis locations, and to expand our reception team. Applicants can inquire through info@encoremusicacademy.net.

Bios on current instructors can be found on the faculty page of our website.
CELLO LESSONS AT ENCORE
We now have a cello instructor on our faculty! Alexander Badalov, a cellist who hails from the country of Georgia, has joined us to teach on Fridays and Saturdays, and we could not be more excited! If you have always wanted to learn how to play the cello, or if you know of someone who does, please spread the word! Thank you!
Studio Stories
As we move into 2017, the studio continues to be busy with a variety of clientele.  Of course, we are finishing up the Pop CD, Archive of Memories, for our very own EnHarmonix, putting finishing touches on the few unfinished songs.

We were very happy to work with Suffolk University's chorus for their annual Holiday Alumni email song "Most Wonderful Time of the Year", as directed by, and accompanied by, our very own Scott Nicholas.

Chris Duffy brought his kids in to surprise his wife with a holiday recording.

We had Bonnie and the Hot Stuff, a jazz trio with vocals (Bonnie) in to do a demo. 3 1/2 hours, 10 songs!! Wow!!

Aimee Shen was in for a classical piano performance demo with video by our own, Ace Knight.

Christie Labib was back in to continue her run at Encore, performing some fine Christmas songs this time.

 RECORDING PARTIES
We are asked more frequently now about recording sessions for birthday parties and family events.  We are happy to be able to provide the recording time and expertise in our studios, but due to liability issues, we are unable to host the "party" portion at Encore.  Call us for more info or to book studio time at: (508) 533-7700.

To book studio recording time, simply call us at the above phone number and speak with either Lisa or Pat.
