Leah Goren is an illustrator who likes to draw and draw with ladies. She's the co-author of Ladies Drawing Night, a peek into the minds and sketchbooks of some of the best female illustrators working today and the author of BESTIES, illustrating all the reasons why best friends are the best.

Name: Leah Goren    ::    Occupation: Illustrator    ::    Age: 28     ::    City: Brooklyn, NY    ::  Astrological sign: Sagittarius

First gig: a pattern for Etsy's twitter background, haha

Best work environment: Early morning in my office, WNYC on the radio, my cat Aaron asleep atop the pile of tote bags on my shelf, and a hot cup of coffee

Favorite interview you've done: Urban Outfitters ran a nice feature recently, link here

Best thing you ever made: It's hard to call something I've made the best, but I am really proud of my first two books that came out last year, Ladies Drawing Night, and BESTIES. Ladies Drawing Night is a book I co-authored with Julia Rothman and Rachael Cole that shows women how to host their own drawing nights. It's full of project ideas, inspiration, and guest artists who's work we love. BESTIES is my first illustrated book, and it's a celebration of best female friendship. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to work on these projects that promote creativity and friendship among women.

Worst thing you ever made: I've ruined so many ceramic pieces in the kiln as I was learning the process and experimenting. The worst is probably painting faces onto women with glaze, and the features dripping right off.

The future: The future is exciting, and also terrifying, because I have no idea what's next. I try and focus on small things that make me happy—I want to continue to draw in my sketchbook, make ceramics, cook, read, look at art, and be with friends.

Ladies who we should know: my BFFs Chelsey Pettyjohn and Kaye Blegvad
