New Women Space opened up late last year hosting events and resources for women in Brooklyn. Co-founders Melissa, creator of Up Speak, & Sandra, creator of GIRL PARTY, have made the space into a sanctuary for women to organize, empower one another and take a deep breath in and out. Join them this week for Donation Based Yoga, Co-working events, LAWL: An All Womyn Comedy Event, DOING IT, DOING IT: a monthly interactive workshop series and much much more!

Name: Melissa Wong   //   Occupation: Co-Founder of New Women Space   //   Age: 29   //   City: Brooklyn

When you're not creating: I'm trying not to consume. I rarely watch TV, have been limiting my email newsletter subscriptions to those that really add value to my everyday, mostly cook at home, and try to spend time with friends and self-care.

First gig: Hostessing at my dad's seafood restaurant in San Diego.

Currently reading: Community: A Sense of Belonging by Peter Block

Why you love your city: NYC is a polarizing place. I love it for its sheer energy, its heartbeat. You never know who or what you are going to see, hear, smell, taste. It keeps you on your toes, keeps you dreaming, keeps you humble.

Best thing you ever made: New Women Space is, to date, the project I am the most proud of. Everyday I come to work and feel a sense of purpose and accountability. Sandra is an amazing partner who I feel so fortunate to have met just this year. We have already seen each other through so many states of being that it's hard to imagine what else we can learn about each other. We have been inspired and motivated by the community forming around the space and look forward to co-creating more awesome events, workshops and conversations in the coming year.

What's next: Continuing to grow New Women Space intentionally. Sign up for our newsletter to hear about new programs in 2017
