Grants Sub-Committee secures nearly $40,000 in Grants
The Committee succeeded in getting two grants which will help substantially improve the facilities of the Club  and . The first was for $1,200 from Mosman Council - a regular contributor to the Club over the years for which we are grateful - which was to enable us to provide a railing on the staircase to the deck.

The second, for $38,742, far exceeded our expectations and also far exceeds any previous grant obtained by MLTC. It came as an unexpectedly large, but very welcome, early Christmas present from the NSW Government Building Community Partnership Program.

The funds will be made available in February and the grant has been specifically made for essential clubhouse repairs and maintenance which are planned to be undertaken in the first half of 2017.

All the clubhouse items requiring R&M (repair & maintenance) are currently being identified, but some of the most obvious are:-
Replacement of sections of the ceiling, replacement of some rotten timber cladding and window sills, replacement of sections of flooring behind the bar, shoring up one of the support columns under the clubhouse, replacing the metal cladding beside court 1, replacing broken kitchen doors and drawers, painting.

While the funds will not enable any major structural changes, it is expected that a number of cosmetic changes will be able to be incorporated into the R&M to significantly improve the current look and feel of the Clubhouse. The Committee is currently prioritising the items to enable work to start in the near future

Thanks in particular to the efforts of Ruth Anstice and Ian Taylor, pictured above (Ruth is on the left) for their work in putting together submissions.

Donations
In recent months the Club has gratefully received generous cash donations from two of its members. These have enabled the repair of one of the grass courts net posts and the imminent purchase of a new barbecue for the deck. Both donors have requested no publicity but, of course, have been thanked privately by the Club and we repeat those thanks here.

Courts 3 & 4 Open
Courts 3&4 have opened on 11th February and are currently facing East West.

Courts to move North South orientation on 8th April to allow for Club Championships to commence (more to follow on that later in a separate missive), with the plan to have first round completed before April 29th when Badge season starts.
Baby Boomers Research - BORN BETWEEN 1946 and 1964?
We have received a request from Dr Liz Gill of Sydney Uni for volunteers on a study to predict future services for Baby Boomers (born 1946-64). The study is looking for a) people who have themselves experience of supporting an elder relative or friend in their 80’s b) people who are physically active now. The study will involve an in-depth interview probably 30-45mins. Here’s the invitation letter from Dr Gill (see notice board as well). If you are interested contact her directly, please.

MESSAGE FROM DR GILL

I would like to invite you to participate in my research study. If you have at some time, either currently or in the past, had experience supporting someone aged in their 80’s receiving community aged care services, I would very much like to hear about your experience and views of these services.

I am particularly interested in exploring your thoughts about the sorts of community services you feel you would like to support you when you become an octogenarian.

If you are interested in learning more about my study or you would like to arrange an interview, please contact me by phone 9926469 or by email liz.gill@sydney.edu.au.

Kind regards
Liz
